Tyrannies of masters over slaves only ended with slavery's abolition. Those of lords over serfs only with feudalism's end. Tyrannies of employers over employees will only end when capitalism gives way to workers' democratic self-direction in an economy based on worker coops.

In Paris now, where a clean, well-maintained, quiet subway system costs much less per ride than the dirty, poorly-maintained, and noisy New York subways. The lesson: French people have limited capitalists' abilities to gut public services.
