We, the writers of books, are THE ENEMY! I mean, I guess I already knew that, what with books being about thinking and such. But here's more proof.

I'm really missing the days when I could respect the folks my research engages (Moravec, Kurzweil, and co.) even when I didn't agree with them. Nowadays, the tech oligarchs don't even deserve being called a clown car.
i honestly don’t understand how technophilia turned into this condescending and scientifically ignorant cult. is the dynamics of social media? it is about money? it’s truly sad, whatever it is. tech should be a good thing, not what it’s become. and above all else it should cherish science and not run roughshod over it.

In case you want to understand Altman's tech religion, I recommend my new book or my first (the ones in the middle aren't as relevant to this question). amazon.com/Futureproofing-Hu… :)
looking up at the stars with extra awe tonight. "thy sea is so great and my boat is so small."

If you want to understand the path @Scobleizer describes, and sort out your position on it...I recommend my recent book. :) robertgeraci.com/2025/12/29/…
I wish Silicon Valley would just be honest with everybody. Here in the Valley, we want all of your data. We want to put computers in your mind. We want to digitize you, which will give you superpowers in return. Elon Musk calls them cognitive enhancements, coming soon. He already controls my transportation, my social media, and my electricity. So, letting him into my mind is something I've already done. Some won't go for this deal. That's okay. The Amish don't buy the modern phones either, or the modern cars. I'm not worried about that. But we should just be honest to let everybody make up their mind, whichever way they go.

Hahahahahahaha. Narratives about AI are political. Always political. That's why better narratives are needed.

The religion of existential risk (AI WILL KILL US ALL!) looks inside for its own salvation (AI IS THE FUTURE!)...and neither of these helps us build a better future. Please see my published works. :)
We are really fucked. • AI has become dangerous (not because it is brilliant but because it has poor judgement, a constitutional inability to reliably follow rules, a surfeit of brute force and too much access to the internet and system permissions). • OpenAI is practically on crime spree, hinting at things to come, and Trump is doing nothing about it. • The media is too caught up in fairytales about extinction. Everybody is talking; nobody is really doing anything. And it’s only going to get worse.

Sam Altman has not been a reliable participant in collective decisions about AI (not that Elon or others are, either). The bait and switch of AI capital is not helpful.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on potential dangers of AI: "First, we could lose control of the future to AI. The risk is that it moves so fast that people can no longer follow what's happening or intervene when needed."

There's been lots of "AI will rule/doom the universe" inflected with Christianity (@peterthiel @JDVance). Antichrist AI? Jesus AI? Neither? The latest questions from a journalist came via email and I figured I'd share my complete responses: robertgeraci.com/2026/09/21/…

Completely agree on the clown show (which was a point of disagreement with my friend @giulioprisco). I wrote Futureproofing Humanity to help us develop better approaches to technology. robertgeraci.com/2025/12/29/…

Please see my published works, from Apocalyptic AI to Futureproofing Humanity. :)
🚨 I’ve identified a pattern… and it’s weird Elon Musk - TRANSHUMANIST Peter Thiel - TRANSHUMANIST Sam Altman - TRANSHUMANIST Larry Ellison - TRANSHUMANIST Larry Page - TRANSHUMANIST Why are billionaire tech bros so obsessed with becoming less human and more machine?

Seriously. I wrote Apocalyptic AI because I could see the religion of AI and robotics emerging. Now Silicon Valley is all-in. That's kinda why I wrote Futureproofing Humanity.

Apocalyptic AI has always been a religion (hence my 2010 book by that name). That doesn't mean it's wrong; I mean, maybe Jesus is coming back too. But I remain a skeptic.

Yup. This is absolutely sensible. Getting our priorities straight depends on telling the right stories about ourselves and our technologies. That's why I wrote Futureproofing Humanity.
I see pausing/pacing AI quite differently. To assert the need for a slowdown of "AI" asserts a particular vision of tech. Instead, we would benefit from re-assessing priorities. Less "GenAI autonomous agents without oversight", more "discriminative cancer screening technology".

I've noticed more folks thinking about #transhumanism and #Hinduism. That's an intersection that I've given some thought to: robertgeraci.com/2026/09/01/… ... many thanks to the @FulbrightPrgrm, which made my trips to #India possible in 2012-13 and 2018-19.
