Rewatched Touch of Evil. Love going a while without watching a classic because that means it only hits harder when you revisit it. Always impressed with how Welles mixes polish and roughness in this particular era (see also The Trial).
What sequels released 15 or more years after the original were actually GOOD?
The ones that managed to recapture what made the first film special without feeling like an unnecessary cash grab.
A few examples that come to mind are 28 YEARS LATER, DOCTOR SLEEP, TOP GUN: MAVERICK and BLADE RUNNER 2049.
What other long-delayed sequels genuinely delivered?
My theory is that Levy's been trying to replicate the brilliance of Giamatti's douchebag executive in Big Fat Liar by putting similar characters in other movies and nobody can meet that standard (see also Gervais in Night at the Museum).
He's held back by relying on the same techniques a lot of the time (mainly montage and voice-over) so his endings start to blur together a bit. I think there's got to be some tangible variety to how a director handles their endings for them to be truly great.
If your favourite movie and least favourite movie both come from the same franchise then you can't be taken seriously
You can't call Kingsman 2 overrated because that would imply people actually think it's a good movie
Characters in Robert Eggers movies sound like if you took Tom Hanks' Colonel Parker voice and pitched it down an octave or two
Yeah we all had fun making fun of the new Taika Waititi movie flopping but are we ready for whatever is going to happen when the new David Leitch movie drops
This could actually benefit from a Morbius-style ironic re-release if only there was anything memorable enough about it to meme
Street Fighter (2026)...didn't hate it, I guess? Flashy enough to almost cover up for how bloated and unengaging it can get - efforts to be a lighter alternative to Mortal Kombat are successful, but at what cost?
Still the only time I've ever seen anyone run Doom on an arcade cabinet
It's embarrassing enough seeing Snyder fans tagging David Ellison and Skydance in tweets asking to restore the Snyderverse, but it's worse to see the Scream die-hards who liked 7 and are excited for 8 because they've already won are extra annoying about it.
Tweets like this are enough to make me think that Scream is a slasher for people who hate slashers
