Our planet is 4.560 million years old and was, for a very long time, lifeless. At PROMETHEUS we investigate the role that silica biomorphs and other self-organized mineral structures may have played as catalyzers of prebiotic chemistry: bit.ly/rezltz #EUfunded #ERCgrant

Early Earth could have hosted many carbonate-rich lakes, which would have had high enough phosphorus concentrations to get life started 👉phys.org/news/2019-12-life-e… via @physorg_com

Life could have emerged from lakes with high phosphorus

Life as we know it requires phosphorus. It's one of the six main chemical elements of life, it forms the backbone of DNA and RNA molecules, acts as the main currency for energy in all cells and...

Of all the scientific accomplishments in 2019, one in particular stands out: an image of a flaming ring of starlight surrounding a dark circle. The historic effort to take a picture of a black hole was one of our most popular stories this year bit.ly/2Myy1Xm
