1/3 Happy Thanksgiving! It's time again for the annual frog simulation jumping contest. Here's how to play: reply to this tweet with your own frog design. Try to see if yours can jump farthest! Results will be posted in next few days.
2/3 Design your frog by tweeting 8 numbers, separated by commas. First 4 are relative bone lengths, summing to 1. 5th number is jump angle degrees (0=horizontal, 90=vertical), last 3 are for rgb color (if you like, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tradit… for color ideas)
Hello Frog Fans! It's almost time again for the annual Thanksgiving Day Frog Simulation Jubilee! I've improved the simulation since last year. Early next week I will tweet the instructions on how to enter the contest and "design your frog" - stay tuned!

Yay! So proud of my first phd student @AmberJCollings who did spectacular work in frog #biomechanics which has helped expand and strengthen the scope of Team Frog's research at @RoyalVetCollege.
Was super amazing to catch up and celebrate with my second supervisor @birdBiomech too 😍
A big thank you goes to Monica and my primary supervisor @PropPhysiology for helping me get there!

I was happy to contribute to this article that illuminates some of the problems international scientists face. Science highly values international mobility, but often the burdens of how that's accomplished get left for the individual scientist to bear, alone.

A co-worker posted this description from an ID book of frogs. Made me chuckle. You probably wouldn't get away with this any more #frogs #frogs #amphibians @DianaF1080 @NicholasWuNZ

Frogfans: Sim Frog Jump Jubilee is finally out! Frogs compete in this order:
@AnneK1993, @AmberJCollings, @StephensRocket, @wdmorley, @correllscience, @CameronHill13, @morpho_herp, @v9joshi, @AdrienArias, @alexevans91, @benparslew, @StevenHCollins, @birdBiomech @PropPhysiology
Hello Frogfans, sorry for delayed release of the Sim Jump Jubilee. My video editing skills aren’t all that. As for results, no spoilers but let’s just say it’s a bit like recent elections, some being too close to call (depending on how distance is defined). Will post tomorrow!
1/3 OK Frogfans: the goal is to create a frog sim that jumps as far as possible. The simulator uses leg motions from a jump like this. The rules are simple - design a simulated frog by tweaking anatomy of the body and legs, as I will explain... (vid by @AmberJCollings)
a smarter model would need to do optimization to account for the above & changes in inertia, etc., (🙏🙌@birdBiomech @StevenHCollins), but this sim doesn't. 2) I hope to eventually build it into something we can use for broader outreach, this is kindof a mini testdrive for that.
That's it for now... "real" work calls at the moment, but since it's a Holiday in the US I feel I can take some liberties and, after all it's #frogfriday. Stay tuned for the results/video and a bit more info about what to look for once the vid is posted.
