How much has the talent spread around in college football now that three or four teams can't hoard it all? This week, 92% of all games have a Vegas line of 2 scores or less. A decade ago, same week, that number was just 65%. That's an enormous jump.

With just three wins out of 76 games against Power Four opponents, the Group of Six has reached a competitive low point in the modern history of college football. The transfer portal has finally killed Cinderella. Column for @yahoosports sports.yahoo.com/college-foo…

Newsletter: I wrote about one of the big misnomers in football… that penalties kill teams. The numbers just don’t show it’s true… mostly. That + Lou’s hot start, Dabo’s program building, bad hair & more… davidhale.substack.com/p/thr…

College football doesn't need your death proclamations or your pearl-clutching. It just needs time. My thoughts: cbssports.com/college-footba…

Offensive efficiency has never been higher ... and scoring's down. Why? @ESPNRittenberg and I dove into slower tempos (and the good/bad reasons for them), timeout usage and the effects of the fourth down revolution on scoring and play sequencing. espn.com/college-football/st…

"A lot of folks think (academic and athletic success) are separate (but they're not}. ... (S)tudents want to be a part of something exciting. ... (Fans) love to...reconnect on campus. ... (A president who does not value athletics is) probably not going to do a very good job..."
The University of Florida's sole finalist for its next president, Dr. Stuart Bell, plans to be heavily involved with Gators athletics if he's confirmed for the role. He anticipates having conversations regarding bringing back the "Gator Bait" chant after the Florida band was barred from playing the musical cue in 2020. Great reminder for athletes and administrators from @Sportico that regardless of major changes in the college sports model, the work you do lies at the center of the TV ad sales universe. This bodes well for continued industry growth. sportsbusinessjournal.com/Ar…

The NFL last year accounted for 47% of all sports TV advertising spend, with the NBA coming in a distant second at 10.8%. According to a new report from eMarketer, sports’ share of converged ad spend—a catchall that includes investments across traditional and connected TV—will reach a smidge (+$30 million) over $20 billion in 2027, up 3% versus the $19.53 billion projected for this year. As such, sports will account for nearly a quarter (23%) of what’s expected to be an $87 billion U.S. TV market. Full story: sportico.com/business/media/…
