Budget day was a big day in Westminster, with middle earners winning from the tax cuts, while others (notably lower earners and pensioners) lost out. But – as @TorstenBell explains – overall not much has changed for Britain, a country where taxes are going up, not down.

Chancellor announces borrowing falling over next five years to just 1.2% of GDP. Take this with a pinch of salt. Will depend on implementing extremely tight spending plans which will imply cuts for many public services.

Insightful read from the IfG following yesterday's reshuffle - one of the big questions is how MPs will hold the soon to be Lord Cameron to account as Foreign Sec given that he won't take questions in the HoC. Will be interesting to see whether govt changes any procedures.🤔

Great to catch up @BenTwomeyUK of @genrentuk over coffee today discussing the reform agenda and comparing notes on synergies 🤓 and the odd difference 🙃 Whilst we might appear on ‘opposite sides’ we both want a healthy PRS that works for #renters and responsible #landlords. 👍 – at London, England
