Samoa Joe vs Kenta Kobashi ROH: Joe vs Kobashi (2005)

Just rewatched the PAC tribute show, and something I wanted to take note of that I forgot to mention last night was how well Will Ospreay carried the mantle of World Champion. He came out energetic as ever. At the start of the match, he did everything in his power to hype the crowd up in what was an understandably somber environment, making it clear this match/show was a celebration in PAC’s honor. He consoled Ricochet along with the rest of The Demand, and wrestled the entire match with a cheerful smile on his face. The weight of having to temporarily transform your grief into motivation, while simultaneously being the person an audience looks towards for direction as World Champion, must be unbelievably heavy. Being someone that has an unimaginable amount of history with PAC, Will Ospreay kept his composure all the way until he didn’t have to anymore. The shot of PAC looking over Ospreay’s shoulder, as he hesitates to attempt The Black Arrow, only for him to nail it to an eruption from the crowd, is one of the most beautiful moments in wrestling history in my opinion. His breakdown after the bell rung was so touching, and I couldn’t possibly imagine a more perfect tribute match. Everyone involved with the show last night did a spectacular job in their own individual ways, but I just wanted to point out how phenomenal I thought Will was in his role. A true face of the company type of performance.
