I've been asking for a database that excludes statistically validated planets for this exact reason. Statistically validated is not the same as confirmed.
K2-399b is NOT a planet. Today, we publish in A&A an unusual paper: a planet demotion. We show that the "confirmed" Saturn planet that was wandering the Neptune desert is actually a hierarchical eclipsing binary. arxiv.org/abs/2408.11732

I hope people truly understand the monument of this. I've watch @That_Astro_Chic start highlighting Black astronomers on her Twitter years ago. She founded @BlackInAstro. The leadership team for @BlackInAstro worked to develop #BlackSpaceWeek formally known as #BlackInAstroWeek
As we celebrate the start of #BlackSpaceWeek, tune in now for a live event from @NMAAHC featuring @NASA_Astronauts Victor Glover, Jessica Watkins, and Yvonne Cagle: youtu.be/oq_OqySiJfQ

The meatball is a dark blue circle, intersected by a red "V" and spotted with white stars. The text "NASA" appears on the circle in a white serif font, with a stylized white circle symbolizing an orbiting satellite surrounding it. Credit: NASA

Almost all of college football’s major problems are rooted in trying to pretend it’s something more fair, collegiate, and innocent than a billion dollar business. This too.

I shed many tears while typing up these heart-wrenching text messages sent and received by UNC students yesterday. Our campus was on lockdown for more than three hours.
Beyond proud of this cover and the team behind it.

If this isn't your area of expertise, are you able to allow an external mentor guide them? Are you supportive in the choices that they make? How do you handle conflict?
These are questions I HIGHLY encourage people looking at doctoral programs ask!

From Guest: When harassers coauthor papers, the community suffers, but nobody is more affected than the Early Career Researchers within those groups. This is how we, the ECRs within the California Planet Search, have tackled the recent authorship debacle.

howdy astro folks.
new (dusty) paper on the arxiv this morning! this time concerning dust temperatures. i again put my pretend observer hat on to test how well we can infer dust temps for high-z galaxies. the results may (or may not) surprise you.
