This is Loup scar on the river Wharfe near Burnsall, a well known local beauty spot. I can imagine a wolf being cornered on the cliffs here (or am I being too fanciful!) and put to death. Again I can't find anything about the origin of the name 😢
Interesting rock above Addingham in West Yorkshire @gow_derek - LOUP carved into one face but I can't find any records of the rock being named, like a lot on Rombalds (Ilkley) Moor are. Loup Scar at Burnsall is a few miles away as are other wolf rocks/crags in North Yorkshire

@nybirdnews large skein of pink feets flying over Malham Moor at 1ish this afternoon, heading north west. Also a couple of dozen golden plover calling and singing skylarks on Fountains Fell
Oh my god! Fantastic work by those concerned but just so horrible that so many have been slaughtered in this fashion, particularly in the Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale. Why aren't the authorities cracking down on this? Because they don't want to upset the shooting industry
New independent report reveals locations of poisoned raptors in northern England 2015-2023 - information that has been suppressed by government.

Another important and shockingly revealing book from @guyshrubsole . Anglian Water is now proposing a huge new sterile and carbon-consuming reservoir in the Fens. Couldn't they just reinstate the meres like Whittlesey that were drained? Restoring nature and supplying water 1/2
The White Lion in Cray looking rather knocked about today @keighleycamra . Application recently in to make alterations to the building but they're already underway. Fingers crossed it stays as a pub - no change of use bid yet!
A first hawkmoth in my mini garden rewilding project in Skipton next to my apple trees. An eyed hawkmoth @AliDriverUK , is it a female as no big antenna?

Just look at the drainage in place on Barden Moor for example - excessive drainage is going on all the time and its burnt every year so sphagnum is not allowed to revegetate and peat isn't recovering
Spring is definitely in the air for mating insects @BroughtonSanc @AliDriverUK - alder leaf beetles and then two leopard moths! A first for me as we took off tree tubes from alders that were bursting out of them after just 4/5 years. I think the 4th pic is a leopard moth cocoon?
It's not only avian predators doing well @BroughtonSanc . You often see stoats like this one hunting for the many voles in the grasslands

PS the pigs are out in the open now!

Lovely day for it too!
Great to see the new planting @WoodlandTrust new site at Hayhills Farm outside Silsden. Can't wait to see the new woodland develop
Great to see @hilltopfarmgirl cows bringing more biodiversity back to @BroughtonSanc - their pats are full of life and they are lovely animals too!
As @DefraGovUK say in the press release, burning encourages heather which dries out peat yet grouse moors boast they are peat guardians! 🤣 For example on this sign board at Conistone Moor, Yorkshire Dales, where there's been a recent burn despite birds arriving to breed

@DefraGovUK proposes new measures to further limit burning on England's grouse moors.
Long overdue & welcome improvements but is it enough?
