Our annual Schawlow-Townes Symposium is today. I’m looking forward to hearing some great talks by the world’s leading photonics researchers!
Great rainbow sun dogs this morning. These happen when certain-sized hexagonal ice crystals orient themselves vertically as they fall through the air. They then act like prisms, all aligned. It typically happens when it is numbingly cold, which it is this morning.
Group skate on the Rideau Canal! Kudos to all the beginners, particularly those from countries without snow.
The annual meeting for our Max Planck-uOttawa Centre for Extreme and Quantum Photonics. Great talks, posters, and discussions (and food!).
Goodbye lunch at our favourite dive bar for our excellent summer student, Xinyuen, from Nankai, China.
Tyler and Josh spelled out the CERC (Canada Excellence Research Chair) group name with the solar eclipse and a multi-pinhole camera!
