Is a more efficient #bitcoin mining machine always the better option when it comes to return on investment (ROI)? You might think so but nothing is straight forward in Bitcoin mining. Let’s look at the ROI in days comparing different scenarios for two popular ASIC models with different efficiency.
In the tables below the return on investment (ROI) in days are provided. These are based on different scenarios with regards to hashprice and kWh rate. The top table shows the ROI of a @BITMAINtech Antminer S19XP 141 TH/s (efficiency of 21.5 J/TH) while the other reflects a S19JPro 104 TH/s (29.5 J/TH). The machine costs ($/TH) are based on the ASIC price index in December 2023.
The green colour shows at which hashprice and $/kWh it makes more sense to buy either a Antminer S19XP 141 TH/s or a S19JPro 104 TH/s. It can be concluded that from a ROI standpoint the XP is the better investment when the electricity fee is elevated and/or hashprice is at the lower end of the spectrum. However, once hashprice is higher than $100/PH/Day your return on investment is faster for the S19JPro at $0,08 kWh and below.
