Canada's retaliatory tariffs are set to take effect tomorrow—tariffs as high as 50 percent on hundreds of US products. Trump has started a trade war with the United State's largest trading partner. Canada (the country, not the "state") is only responding accordingly while Trump is lashing out on social media, renaming lakes, and insulting our allies, and all in pursuit of a self destructive agenda. Another pointless trade dispute that will mostly just end up passing costs down to American consumers. Canada isn't the enemy, TRUMP IS. In the meantime, Mark Carney's approval rating is practically the inverse of Trump's disapproval rating. Still standing at over 60%. Trump's public tantrums do nothing to bring the US and Canada closer to an agreement. It actually does the opposite because Trump is indicating that he has no hand left to play. The US is no longer a trusted ally. Once friendly trade allies are adapting to Trump's tariff threats, to the point of suggesting economic war against the US. Just what we need right now... Our trade partners are smartening up and taking an offensive posture against Trump because they know he's going to have to backpedal at some point due to his plummeting ratings and the American peoples’ overwhelming disapproval of his tariffs and never ending trade feuds. Canada and other US allies are adapting; establishing new terms because any leverage Trump thinks he has was conceded when SCOTUS struck down his tariffs and the American public realized that the costs are getting passed down to them. The economic pain of Trump's tariffs and Canada's retaliation to those tariffs will land on ordinary Americans, small businesses, domestic manufacturers and farmers especially. This isn't speculation, it's part of a pattern revealed by data. Trump's tariffs have already cost Americans hundreds of billions of dollars in added expenses. The average American family is spending thousands more in extra costs than they otherwise would have because of Trump's recklessly stupid trade policies. In fact, the data show that Americans are footing over 90 percent of the tariff bill. Shocker... The federal reserve even announced that, without Trump's tariffs, the inflation rate would have returned to pre pandemic levels last year. Trump's tariff policies aren't correcting trade imbalances, they're not protecting domestic industries, they're not reining in countries like China, and they're not even sufficiently reducing the trade deficit. Instead, they're functioning as a regressive TAX on low income, working and middle class Americans. They're making life less affordable for Americans, straining our domestic industries, contributing to surging delinquencies, hurting manufacturers and fueling inflation, and wages aren't keeping up. They're exacerbating income and wealth inequality. They're damaging our relationships with trade partners, alienating our allies, and tarnishing our credibility on the world stage Our once friendly middle powers are even turning to China for trade because Beijing is seen as a more reliable economic ally than the US. Farmers have been especially hurt by Trump's chaotic tariffs and trade wars. Thousands of farms have gone bankrupt since Trump returned to office. His policies have raised their costs and put immense pressure on our agriculture industry. Worse yet, his war in Iran has caused the price of fuel, fertilizer and farm equipment to skyrocket, which has also trickled down to food costs. And when farmers suffer, so do most Americans. Trump isn't playing chess, he's not even playing checkers. But he is playing stupid games with Americans' livelihoods When polled, a majority of Americans said that Trump's tariffs are harmful to the US economy. They're right. But in spite of how deeply unpopular his policies are both at home and abroad, Trump still insists on punishing Americans for the sake of his fragile ego and petty squabbles with world leaders.

Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remember the 6 million Jewish men, women, and children, and millions more, who were murdered at the hands of the Nazis. To commemorate the Holocaust and its victims, we must speak out against antisemitism and other forms of bigotry today. In the face of darkness, be the light.
