From Pittsburgh to Oakland, we're facing a nationwide crisis that's impacting renters, homeowners, and small landlords. Politicians know what they can do to help. It's time for them to take the necessary action -- pronto. post-gazette.com/business/mo…

This is not on. This is not how it’s supposed to work. This is not the sort of nation we think ourselves to be. Surely intervention against this type of cruelty is the remit of someone.

Replying to @JanisIrwin
@JanisIrwin B.C just announced that everyone on income support will be getting an extra 300$ a month. Is there any chance of this for Alberta with people on AISH like myself? Or income support? Like maybe a small chance, a tiny chance, an itsy, bitsy one?

@inklessPW You may not be aware, but protocols as prescribed by @CMOH_Alberta are not being followed & you cannot discriminate based on income in Alberta.

canadian disaster capitalism playbook: ✅ fire tens of thousands of public sector workers ✅ spend billions on pipelines ✅ waive rent for airline companies but not people teapawt.net/CBCAlerts/status/12449…
Feds roll out help to airlines coping with fallout of coronavirus pandemic. Rents waived at major airports through December; will save airlines $331M. Comes as government prepares to unveil more details of wage subsidy program. Latest COVID-19 update: cbc.ca/1.5514497

THREAD: Nearly 1/3 of total Canadian households are renters. Yet proposed #COVID19 financial relief utterly fails to address looming issue of rent coming due. It’s good that evictions are suspended, but about half of renters live paycheque to paycheque. Arrears will crush us.

$2000 a month for out of work workers but people on welfare still stuck on $760 and people on disability with lots more expenses on $1183. If $2000 a month is good for workers it should b for everyone

With due respect @HonAhmedHussen, history shows voluntry benevolence of landlords isn't good enough - will not quell tenants' worries + will not provide consistent protectn. Need govt. guarantee #noevictions of anyone, anywhere for any reason + natnl rent geared to income scheme
For Canadians worried about rent, we expect landlords to recognize the situation we are in, and suspend evictions. Canadians should not have to worry about losing their homes because of COVID-19. We’re working hard to make sure families have the money they need.

Every Premier in Canada has acted to protect renters by announcing policies to prevent evictions resulting from the #COVID19 crisis...except Jason Kenney. What’s he waiting for?! Albertans deserve better! #ableg #abpoli #canlab #cdnpoli

Increasing government payments to cover the already unfairly high rents is really not what we need - the whole community is impacted by this and needs to share the burden - not have government back their investments. A shame that this is the tack some are taking.

Mr Kenney is refusing to grant rent exemptions or prevent evictions during a pandemic for Albertans in need. The government of Canada literally paid his rent to his mom for two decades. #ableg

We are still waiting for this government to act to prevent the eviction crisis. I am gravely concerned he does not grasp that this is a serious public health issue. #ableg

Doug Ford has banned evictions, Francois Legault has banned evictions, and now John Horgan has too. Why won't @jkenney? It's not a left-wing or right-wing issue. It's good, sound public policy during a pandemic. Rent is due in 5 days. #ableg
