Robert Brovdi, Commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces: Drones at the tactical level were, are, and will remain a priority in terms of deterring Russian troops. They are a priority and the most widely used capability. 1/12

Often missed is the second half of the kingfisher quote. β€œIt can only be ensured by instinct, sharpened by thought practicing the stroke so often that at the crisis it is as natural as a reflex.” We need #wargaming in PME.
THE THING WE STILL CAN’T TEACH I'll bite on this one. Napoleon remains the ghost in professional military education. Why? Let me take a stab at it... Jomini watched him and tried to turn the phenomenon into rules. Anyone in the U.S. Army has seen this before. If you do something exceptional on the field (especially in training), then you're often coached that you went outside the lines and need to get back in. You may have succeeded, but it COULD have been a disaster. So we try "putting baby in a corner" because the science of war is safe. The art scares people. Clausewitz watched the same fire in Napoleon and concluded that rules would never be enough. Two centuries later we are still dissecting the campaigns, naming principles, drawing arrows on maps, and trying to explain what exactly lived inside that man. Again, why? There is a part of command that refuses to become curriculum. T.E. Lawrence called it the "kingfisher flash". Clausewitz reached for the genius. It's the instant when one mind sees through fog what a hundred educated men cannot see at all, then possesses enough violence of will to act before the moment disappears. Read that last part againπŸ‘† You can feed that gift with history, sharpen it through hardship. But you CANNOT manufacture it with another degree. It MUST be revealed. Yet modern institutions are built around the opposite assumption. We stack schools, evaluations, gates, boards, and credentials high enough and convince ourselves that eventually genius will emerge from the assembly line. It won’t. It can't. Ever. Worse, the machine often recognizes the dangerous talent and rejects it precisely because it cannot reproduce it. The unusual man is β€œreckless.” The instinctive one is β€œunserious.” The officer who refuses the approved path becomes β€œunqualified.” READ. IT. AGAIN.πŸ‘†πŸ‘†πŸ‘† Then war arrives and burns the paperwork. That is the lesson Napoleon keeps trying to teach us from two hundred years away. You can study the flame forever. You still have to recognize it when it walks into the room. The closest we can come to discovering this genius is testing our officers on it. No more reliance on pure paperwork. I say to these officers: Show us the gift you're supposed to possess for the highest commands. Or step aside for someone who will.

Fact: Canada has a brave and professional military. It has deployed into combat with us many times, including D-Day. Canadian troops, under my NATO command, faced intense fire in Afghanistan where many were killed in action. I honor their memory and salute them. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ yahoo.com/news/politics/arti…

Mr Secretary, please stop embarrassing us. I served in Kandahar Afghanistan in 2009-2010 alongside Canadian Soldiers. They were skilled, courageous, and effective. We were lucky to be on the same side with them.
Sean Duffy on Canada: "It's a country that doesn't have a military ... they have record high euthanasia rates. And so to think that they're gonna go to war with Donald Trump and actually win that war with the US, I think it's foolish on their part."
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Canada does have a military. The Canadian Armed Forces has over 67,000 regular force personnel. canada.ca/en/services/de… canada.ca/en/department-…

Seb made one of the most important wargames of the last decade and the PLA sees our forces using it. And they aren't idiots so this doesn't surprise me
I did not have the PLA Navy playing my "Littoral Commander Indo-Pacific" #wargame on one of their ships on my bingo card for 2026. Absolutely wild. 🎲 #wargaming

Corollary - If you need to learn about #Joint #MDO Multi Domain Operations there is no better preparation than @SebastianBae Littoral Commander!! Top MDO #wargame @USACGSC
A hobby that forces you to sit with uncertainty, make a decision anyway, and live with the consequences is better preparation for real life than most things marketed as such.

Task Force Maven teams were hard at work. We just wrapped an intensive Palantir Developer Course hosted at Allied Air Command and delivered by Ontologize (shoutout to our instructor, Frank!) and NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) Academy. The energy in the room was incredible, bringing together attendees from across Allied Command Operations, including Joint Force Commands (JFCs), Domain Commands, and Combined Air Operations Centres (CAOCs). By empowering this team, we have just multiplied our ability to conduct true multi-domain operations. The ultimate highlight? The community built in the classroom. We didn’t just deliver a course; we armed our newest talent with the knowledge, network, and confidence to build and innovate within the platform on day one. Class dismissed. Now, time to build. πŸš€
