Finally our new paper is out! In salt marshes, multiple plant trait dimensions mediate the influence that different stressor gradients have on plant biomass allocation. In turn, this mediation can have complex consequences for ecosystem services. doi.org/10.1111/1365-2745.13…

Has anyone worked out what 'Farming for the future' might mean for conservation management of (carbon-storing) salt marshes & the UK's breeding Redshank?

Thank you @BostonGlobe for highlighting how #saltmarshes are on the front lines of climate change. More action is needed. Our nature-based restoration aims to help marshes keep pace with sea-level rise: onewaterfront.thetrustees.or… @MassEcoRestore @USFWS #GreatMarsh #NAWCA
“The result [of these changes to coastal marshes] will be a further loss of wetlands, with devastating impacts for fisheries." bostonglobe.com/metro/2019/0… via @BostonGlobe

We were also surprised by our own results re. livestock and marsh erosion 🤣. If you're curious about the specifics, here's a figure that explains the story in a nutshell. Plus, here's the paper (it's #openaccess 🎉) link.springer.com/article/10…

Here's a great thread on #saltmarshes from @coastwellbeing, an interdisciplinary project led by @NicolaBeaumon17
#DYK that around 40% of the people that live in Wales don’t know what a #saltmarsh is, and that only 37% have ever knowingly visited these coastal environments? Despite this #saltmarshes are increasingly valued for their #ecosystemservices
