The most likely source may well be local auctions/house clearances, as the sadly departed cannot inform anyone that they recorded some BBC radio back in the 1950s/1960s. Keeping alert, following up leads and being encouraged by ANY decent archive finds is the way forward! (3/3)
30th April 1956 is the last date when a HHH of which not one second exists was broadcast ('The Breakfast Cereal'). 'Sid James' Dad' (which only exists in very rough sound) was repeated as "recently" as
20th July 1957. Therefore, I feel there is hope. (2/3)
In looking for "missing" material (and actually the same applies to life itself), it's important to stay optimistic. In the last year, I have come across mid-1950s recordings - so there is no solid reason why more missing 'Hancock's Half Hour' episodes might not turn up (1/3)
The BBC is set to scrap Radio 4 Extra. 📻 Losing this treasure trove of classic comedy, archive drama, and timeless storytelling would be a massive blow for millions of us.

Shem Law's brilliant piece in "Radio Times" about @Radio4Extra sums things up perfectly: 'it introduces listeners to programmes they would never think to search for.'

What would I cut instead of @Radio4Extra?
1. 'The Bidding Room' - replaced with an episode of a classic comedy, a different one each day.
2. Ultra high definition when we already have HD.
3. Radio One Anthems, Radio One Dance, Radio 5 Sports Extra 3.
Brilliant Bunuel? Terrific Truffaut? Bravo to BBC4 for offering up a mouth-watering season of classic world cinema plus (and here's the exciting part) BBC documentaries from the archives. Marvellous!

Perhaps totally insignificant to some, but of huge satisfaction to me - I've located (in pristine audio) the very first radio edition of 'Whack-o!' from 1961. It's been missing for over 65 years...but missing no longer!
Great 1996 documentary dusted off to mark 50 years of 'Swap Shop':

Sad that that BBC1 morning timeslot is now full of news and yet more cookery shows!
Fascinating '70 Up- The Victorians' on @officalITV earlier this evening. ITV should use its archive more often - a themed series using archive extracts like these would be a joy!
Something extremely special from @thecoralband - youtube.com/watch?v=lmF3Tns0…
Songs like this restore my faith in the music of the modern world. LOVE the video too - as a kid who grew up by the coast I appreciate it even more. Great stuff!
How can any sane government think that this is a fair system?
Why is a Level 2 and 3 plumbing course free in the UK for an asylum seeker and some migrants, but not for me, who is English 🏴 and born here?
I am a 27-year-old British bloke who already has Level 1 plumbing and just wants to finish Levels 2 and 3 so I can work the trade and leave my Production Operative role for a real career.
Cost to me: £4,000–£6,000.
The same courses are free if you have refugee status here, free for an asylum seeker who has been here 6 months waiting on a decision, or refused and appealing for 6 months.
Also free immediately for several other statuses and if you are on a low income it seems.
Why is this country backwards? 🇬🇧
Lad with excellent school attendance helps family in food business. Sounds great to me! It's what many families do in terms of training the next generation. However, Hampshire County Council see it differently.
C'mon HCC - have some common sense!

I could listen to Kelsey Grammer all day!
Kelsey Grammer on reparations: I don’t have to apologize for my grandparents.
“My grandparents were extraordinary people. They survived the Depression. They fought World War II. My grandfather was away from home for 28 months in the South Pacific. This is not a man who has to apologize for who he is.”
“Do the people who have ancestors who were killed in the Civil War owe reparations?
Do the Italians who came after the Civil War owe money?
Do the Irish who came through Ellis Island owe money?
I think it’s just a dodge.”

An important video. I saw someone not long ago say that the small boats contained women and children. They contain men. Young men.

Has the Prime Minister seen this?
I'd love to get back to doing "live" radio, but, for now, here's a special featuring interviews with Marty Wilde and Eden Kane!

The government plan 1,000 houses on countryside on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. There are currently 100s of homes up for sale which people can't afford or don't want. Building more at set prices will only destroy our green spaces. It's madness - and greed!
"JB" is one of my heroes - someone who made (and still does make) the world a better place. @BetjSoc
"Back to the simple life.
Back to nature."

I've not seen the film, but there's a fascinating point here about success being the result of huge promotion.
The legendary film critic David Thomson on Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey:
"I think it's a very bad film. An extraordinary mess. A huge confidence trick. It lacks coherence and its success is the result of huge promotion rather than any artistic merit. I don't think Nolan is a good storyteller and he's not a very interesting director."
Catching up on @PaulHeatonSolo at the BBC (available on iPlayer for 3 more weeks). Absolutely joyous, and so many songs that (for me) are as good as it gets. I did see him live a few years ago - and he was fantastic. Pure, pure class.
