We managed to do a drone test before school closed. Here is a video of what took place. We gathered readings and some faults from this test. Our Cans structural integrity had weak points so we have iterated our design to be stronger around these areas. @RMSforGirls @RMSPhysics
Although the launch has been postponed, our team are working hard at home to progress in our report. We will still give updates during this period of time. Hope everyone is staying safe and all your family is doing well! @RMSforGirls @RMS_DT @RMSPhysics @RMSCompSci
This is the first prototype parachute. Through testing we came to a conclusion the eyelets weren’t good, as it ripped the material. Therefore, for our next prototype we will sew all the ropes on. @RMSforGirls #ThisRMSCansat
This is the stages of development for our parachute. We tested multiple shapes and tested all to see which would be the most useful. We also tested to see if it fitted within our criteria e.g how long it would take to fall.
During a very exciting CanSat session last Friday, we finished building and successfully tested our Yagi Antenna, with the help of a radio communications expert. The antenna will greatly increase the range from which we can receive data. #cansat #thisrmsgirlcansat @RMSforGirls
Building of our second can prototype is well underway. We have identified points of stress and weakness in our first prototype and have adapted our design to better distribute impact force. @RMSforGirls @RMSPhysics @RMS_DT #cansatuk #thisrmsgirlcansat
On Saturday, we drop tested our first CanSat prototype from a height of 400ft. The can survived impact without damage, and the parachute enabled a well controlled landing. We also didn't lose the CanSat to neighboring fields, which is always bonus!

We have been working hard over these past few weeks: working towards our final report, prototypes of the 3D printed can and parachute and lastly building our antenna. We have come back from half term eager to progress.
News came in this morning that our RMS CanSat team has been selected to compete in the UK CanSat National Finals. We were selected as one of the top 10 teams in the country, based on a 30 page progress report submitted in January. We are all very proud of this huge achievement.
Last week was the start of our parachute testing. we recorded the time it took, the distance and 2 different parachutes with different surface areas. please look on our instagram: @rms_cansat to see videos of the testing @RMSPhysics @RMSCompSci
