As a vc I am hired to manage private market risk not public market. Let’s get back to the basics folks.
Doug Leone on the mistake every VC makes: Selling their winners too early. “We owned 20% of Nvidia and sold. We were the first investor in Apple and sold. We owned 10% of Google and sold.” “If we hadn’t sold Google that would be half a trillion dollars.” “We owned a quarter of Cisco and sold.” ($411 billion market cap) “We had big ownership in very big companies.” “The great companies compounded 20+ years after the IPO. If you had a little sniffer that this thing has essentially an unbounded market for many years, you should never sell a share.” “You can make way more money holding those. If you're compounding a $5 billion gain that can turn into a $50 billion gain.”

The average Airbnb one-bedroom charges you $96 to clean the place after you leave. Then the host leaves a note asking you to strip the beds and start a load of laundry before you go. And Airbnb still keeps about $15 of that cleaning fee. Starting next month, hosts can't make you do that anymore. The reason they fought so hard to keep those checkout lists comes down to one line about towels. The line is "start a load of all white towels (use bleach)." Laundry is the slowest part of cleaning a rental. Towels take about an hour to wash and close to another hour to dry, and the cleaner usually has around five hours between an 11am checkout and a 4pm check-in to turn the whole place over. If you start the washer on your way out, the cleaner shows up with the slowest job already halfway done. Same deal with stripping the beds and dragging the trash out to the garage bin. Every task you do comes off the cleaner's clock, so one cleaner can flip more places in a day, and the host still collects the full fee. Airbnb's $15 comes from its host-only fee, which takes 15.5% of the booking subtotal with the cleaning fee counted in. So Airbnb was getting a cut of a cleaning you partly did yourself. Brian Chesky actually promised to fix this back in November 2022. He tweeted that guests shouldn't have to strip beds or do laundry. Nothing enforced it, so hosts kept printing the lists for four more years. This time Airbnb wrote real rules. For bookings made from November 20, hosts can't require you to strip beds, start laundry, wash and put away dishes, or haul trash off-site. Every request has to be on the listing before you book. A sign taped up in the kitchen or a message after you book doesn't count, so the exact sheet in this photo breaks the rules on day one. Hosts who ignore it get warnings and get pushed down in search. Here's why hosts are so mad about it. Back in 2022, Airbnb also started ranking listings by total price, cleaning fee included. So when cleaners got more expensive, a host really had two options. Raise the cleaning fee and sink in search results, or quietly hand some of the work to the guest. Airbnb just took away the second option. At least one host has already pulled their listing over this, and plenty more will threaten to. My guess is most of them stay and bump the price a little. Honestly, I'd take that. I'd rather see it in the total than find out at 9am on the last day of vacation that I'm doing somebody's laundry.
Airbnb is banning hosts from requiring guests to wash dishes, do laundry, or complete other "unreasonable" chores Hosts who violate the policy could face warnings, flagged listings, and reduced visibility

Congratulations man What do you mean by joined?
Excited to share that Evolution has joined Nuvion @ournuvion 🚀 When we started Evolution, we had a simple vision: make moving money across borders easier and more accessible for individuals and businesses, enabling them to go Global from wherever they were. We believed that accessing global financial services shouldn’t be complicated simply because of where you live or where your business operates. What started as a platform for exchanging digital assets grew into something much bigger. We built infrastructure that enabled people and businesses to hold multiple currencies, receive international payments, move money across borders, and access financial tools that were previously out of reach. Along the way, we served thousands of users, processed millions of dollars in transactions, and learned firsthand what it takes to build financial infrastructure in emerging markets. But more importantly, we saw just how much work remains to be done. As we continued building, one thing became increasingly clear: solving cross-border banking challenges at scale requires more than a great product. It requires strong financial infrastructure, regulatory reach, and the ability to serve businesses wherever they operate. That’s what makes this next chapter with Nuvion particularly exciting. Nuvion is building an AI Powered Global banking platform for ambitious businesses, bringing multicurrency accounts, international payments, FX, virtual cards, and stablecoin infrastructure together in one place. Our visions have always been closely aligned, and joining forces gives us the opportunity to pursue what we started at Evolution on a much larger scale. For me, this is an opportunity to take everything we’ve learned building Evolution and apply it to something with the infrastructure, reach, and ambition to serve businesses around the world. I’m especially excited that members of the Evolution team are continuing this journey with me at Nuvion. We’ve spent years building, solving difficult problems, and learning together. Now we get to bring that experience into a much bigger mission. To everyone who believed in Evolution, our early customers, investors, partners, community, and the incredible people who contributed to our journey: thank you. You trusted us when we were still figuring things out, challenged us to build better, and helped turn an idea into a real business. I’m incredibly proud of what we built, and even more excited about what comes next. Evolution was never just about building another fintech company. It was about making global banking accessible for the people and businesses who need it. That mission continues at Nuvion. The Job is just starting

At @Morvdesk , our story begins with our research, and technology is central to how we turn that research into products that deliver meaningful outcomes for investors. Our 12-month commercial partnership with @trydecideAI is an important step in strengthening that process, from research and analysis to product development and financial operations.

Sigh
I saw someone write something about “The Pope passing” but it was satire. Something about him leaving ICU and all. But just for a split second before I got that it was a joke, I caught myself saying out loud “how will something like this happen and God didn’t gist me?” I panicked for a little bit. Not just because I thought the pope passed, but something else. Something of this magnitude and God didn’t talk about it? Ah! I’m done for! But all is well. The pope is still with us. All is well. Nothing to fear concerning I and God’s gists… …for now.

Before I joined EY that year, I used to pray for a job that'd make me travel. I got the job and I hated travelling so much after a while 😂 Anyway, be careful what you wish for. There's a cost to everything.

Mark replied to the thread with a “receipt” from a cleaning company saying the floor had been inspected and was clear before I arrived. It looked fake, but it was on official-looking letterhead. Now Airbnb was asking me for “additional proof” or they’d charge my card on file. I sat there watching my bank balance, waiting for a support agent to join. Almost a day passed. I barely slept. I kept checking my banking app every time my phone buzzed, worried they’d finally taken the $720. The support agent I’d spoken to disappeared. Around 5 a.m., an automated email said my “dedicated case manager” was out of the office and would get back to me within two days. Meanwhile, the $720 was sitting as a pending transaction on my card. Then Mark texted around noon. “Trying to use old Zillow photos to commit fraud. My lawyers have been notified. Good luck.” I was actually scared. Eventually, I got through to someone at Airbnb Support who looked at the attachments. I sent the Zillow link again and said, “Look at the date on the listing. The burn is there. Look at my check-in video. The burn is still there.” The agent went away for about seven minutes. When she came back, she said they’d reviewed my video’s metadata and cross-referenced the historical listing. Mark’s claim had been denied. The $720 hold on my card had been released. I asked what would happen to him. She couldn’t give me details, but when I clicked his listing later, it showed “404 Page Not Found.” I don’t know whether they removed the listing or his whole account, but I hope those cleaning receipts caught up with him. I checked my banking app again. The pending charge was gone. I’m still shaking from the adrenaline. Never staying in an Airbnb again. Hotels only.

Brian, it’s not only about new updates. Your policy needs to change as well. It should protect and support consumers, not just hosts.
