THE HERRING GIRLS OF OLD NORTH SHIELDS 🐟❤️ Long before the restaurants and bars of today, North Shields Fish Quay was a hive of activity, filled with fishermen, fishwives and the remarkable women known as the Herring Girls. BEATTIES – PILGRIM STREET, NEWCASTLE 🎄🚂 For me, a Saturday trip to Newcastle as a kid wasn’t complete without a visit to Beatties on Pilgrim Street. As soon as we got off the bus, this was the shop I’d make a beeline for. I was absolutely mesmerised by the model railway that ran all the way around the shop. I could have stood there for hours just watching those little trains go round and round. I always dreamed that one day I’d have a model railway setup of my own… 🚂❤️ Here’s a little trip back to those magical childhood memories of Beatties — a shop that will always hold a special place in my memories of old Newcastle.
