The former CEO of Polar Train LNG said that the export terminal is actually financed and controlled by Russia’s Novatek without Washington’s permission.
At first, he believed that the money was provided by investor, who is associated with the Trump family, but it turned out that the financing came from Novatek.
Russia’s Novatek has been under US sanctions since 2014, and its Arctic LNG 2 project was added to the list in 2023.
According to the FT, a swap is being discussed in negotiations with Moscow: Novatek helps with Alaska, and the US lifts sanctions on Arctic LNG 2.
