For 81 years, the United Nations has given life to a simple idea that we do better when we work together. In a world facing conflict, climate change, the housing crisis and inequality, the Secretary-General reminds us that the UN and its Charter matter more than ever. #UNDay.

Our cities can worsen the climate crisis or help us respond to it. Upgrading informal settlements, improving basic services & creating greener neighbourhoods are practical steps towards cities that work better for people & planet. My interview with GIZ: giz.de/en/newsroom/stories/w…

Conflict in one part of the world can leave families thousands of miles away struggling to put food on the table.  Together, we must work to protect food security, keep essential trade moving and ensure the most vulnerable do not bear the heaviest burden.  We cannot allow today’s conflict to become tomorrow’s hunger crisis. #WBGMeetings

#Housing, mobility, water & climate risks transcend municipal boundaries. At @EMAmetropolitan 2026 in #Istanbul, I highlighted metropolitan authorities as territorial integrators and accelerators of @SDGoals localization, climate resilience & investment. Thanks to @marmarabb , the Àrea Metropolitana de #Barcelona & the European Metropolitan Authorities network for convening. Towards @turkiyecop31 , turning plans into action!

I presented the SG’s report on the New Urban Agenda (NUA) to the Second Committee. The report comes at a pivotal moment. We have reached the NUA's midpoint, reviewed #SDG11 and convened #WUF13. It highlights UNH’s progress & calls for implementation in the NUA's next phase.

Happy World Habitat Day! Housing is where life begins — where families grow, children learn and futures take shape. Yet nearly 3.4 billion people still lack adequate housing. Today, let’s keep pushing for housing that is affordable, safe and connected to opportunity.
