Gov has made it almost impossible to avoid folic acid. Manufacturers and retailers are not helping either @waitrose What are people with cancer, heart stents, B12 deficiency and those who don't want an increased risk of cancer meant to do?
Replying to @waitrose
@Waitrose has closed the door on a customer trying to avoid synthetic folic acid. After weeks of correspondence (Case 19308882) they wrote: “Please refer to my email on 20/10, where I advised that we are unable to assist you further on this matter, as all available information has already been shared. Please note that while any further correspondence will be logged on your file, it may not be responded to.” One slice of fortified bread is fine. Ordinary daily intake of bread + cereal + pie/pastry + biscuits easily exceeds 300–450 μg — well over the 200 μg level previously advised for over-50s because of B12-masking risk. A substantial part of Waitrose’s core customer base is over 50. They have no system to identify folic-acid-free products and no plan to warn customers about cumulative exposure. @ClareCraigPath has highlighted the issues with unmetabolised folic acid and the limits of the safety data. Retailers following the mandate still have a duty to consider cumulative effects under the Food Safety Act.

On 13th December 2026, folic acid will be mandated in non-wholemeal flour in UK including imported and organic flour. On 14th December 2026, the House of Commons will debate that unethical and unsafe law.

Nothing screams “Energy Independence” quite like making it illegal to drill for your own oil and gas while happily importing the stuff from Norway and the US - then locking the ban in so future governments need a full parliamentary majority to reverse your masterclass in self-sabotage.

OUR ENERGY IS DOOMED 👇👇👇👇👇 Burnham has just made new North Sea drilling ILLEGAL. We are sitting on our own oil and gas under the North Sea and this government has banned us from going to get it. At the same time we are importing over 40% of our energy from abroad, diesel is £2 a litre, bills are through the roof, and Brent crude is over $100 because of the Iran mess. Nigel Farage is right — this is economic vandalism. We are killing jobs in Aberdeen, killing tax revenue, and killing our own energy security. And they call it the "Energy Independence Bill" — you couldn't make it up. We will be paying for this for decades.

Who else is checking the ingredients for Folic Acid in everything before they buy? It’s exhausting but it’s worth it.

Ask yourself why your government is hell bent on force medicating you with folic acid in all your staple foods. Look into folic acid and cancer growth. And yes you really should be fucking outraged. #AbolishGovernment

The Governments reason for putting Folic Acid in food is because "our diets have changed as we don't eat food such as Spinach, Chard, Kale which naturally have it in". So now it's in everything from Bread, Biscuits, Breakfast Cereal, Cakes, Crumpets, Pastries, Burgers, Ready Meals, Cans of Soup, Gravy, Pizza, Crisps, Breaded Chicken, Sausages, Pasta, Oven Chips, Fish Batter and so on. How does not eating 2 or 3 sources of natural folic acid equate to putting it in every single food possible? A synthetic lab made chemical is not good for you.

So my Dutch contact has gotten back to me and can confirm that on the farms in the Netherlands, they have only used 1/6 of the dose of Bovaer, that is being used on farms in Denmark. He has sent me this: Hi Kent Below the answer from Holland Hi, mine was mixed with the minerals, and then I fed 10 grams per cow per day. I think that is much less than what you have to feed. They didn’t go over 24 grams per cow per day here. I also have a conversion to kg dry matter.👇 Furthermore: 24 grams is equal to 1200 3NOP (the active substance in Bovaer) and converts to 60 PPM 3NOP (parts per million) per kg dry matter. He and the others who fed it until 2 years ago gave 10 grams. He has not been able to get the package insert from the mineral mixture, unfortunately. This Budget offered the Chancellor the opportunity to reset its relationship with the countryside. Today, however, he showed little interest in seizing that chance.   Extending small business rates relief could help rural businesses, but coupled with hikes in employment costs it remains to be seen whether hardworking rural business owners will see any real benefit. Additionally, while temporarily extending the red diesel duty cut and suspending tariffs on kerosene heating oil and fertiliser are welcome moves, it will come as little solace to farmers still facing enormous threats to their livelihoods.   Before becoming Prime Minister, Andy Burnham pledged to revisit the hated Family Farm Tax. He has failed to do so. This tax continues to tarnish the government’s rural record. It is preventing farmers from making important decisions about their livelihoods, hampering the government’s own mission of creating good growth in every postcode. Working with the custodians of our countryside, we will continue to vocally oppose this tax and call for its abolition.   Additionally, farmers have been encouraged for years to diversify their businesses by creating holiday lets, among other measures; but anyone who has done so is now being punished by yet another increase to the property income tax paid on such lets, further threatening the viability of their business.   At a time when the government should be increasing support for farmers and in the wake of last month’s Sustainable Farming Incentive fiasco, it has slashed DEFRA's funding for 2027-28 by £100m.   This Budget does little to give “breathing space” or fresh hope for the countryside. If this government is serious about growth in every postcode, including in the countryside, it must urgently address the plethora of problems facing rural businesses. Scrapping the Family Farm Tax is the only way to turn a new leaf. @CAupdates

Proposed “administrative” change to self assessment will have a big hit on farmers, investors and the self employed from 2029. It appears HMRC wants to accelerate the payment of self assessment tax meaning these people will have to find their tax payments earlier, and potentially on money they haven’t even earned yet! Great for HMRC’s cash flow, much worse for the people having to fund cash earlier.
