Almost enough to start their own power conference
Per sources, UNC is one of 7 ACC schools considering going independent if the PCSA is passed by congress in the next session after the election.

FSU is handing out candy corn and changing stadium light colors to get people in the stands on Halloween night… Have to imagine the numbers aren’t looking great heading into this one.

Miami is not going independent. They would have nowhere to put the Olympic sports and it's very unlikely they could find a deal possibly ironically with the Big East. But scheduling for football would still be tough.
If Miami goes independent they would do so with media/streaming deal already in place. Netflix isn’t giving them a deal based on the FSU game so how does that game put a hurt on their brand? B1G would probably have a deal worked out that they would throw Miami a couple games

So Miami speaks through an obvious media invite arranged in order to get a message out. It's a form of gamesmanship. It is clear as day for anyone to see, as of today, the Big Ten and SEC options are not there today for the Florida schools. It is for UVA/UNC if the SEC adds.
What the media has is this - some of the truth and the barking that schools want out in the public. In life you don't always get what you want. Most people inside college athletics want the PCSA passed as it is today, regardless of what the 4 ACC schools are saying

I don't want to call it desperation, but the public talking is a little bit of that. When OU/UT/USC/UCLA moved, there was zero public talk. When Neb/MO moved, MO was begging for a Big Ten invite. Neb spoke in public a little bit, but kept things private for the most part.
I was texting with a few folks inside college athletics about that article. You aren't talking about being independent and talking to a potential network partner if the option runway was clear towards a P2, nor would you be talking to get attention.

Big Ten Chief Operating Officer Kerry Kenny tells ESPN there’s not a specific SEC-Big Ten scheduling agreement being announced, as has been intimated publicly. When the CFP formally expands to 24 teams starting in 2027, every Big Ten team is committed to an annual non-conference game against a power team.

In the "second tier" of college sports' caste system, Miami is positioning itself for a conference move while exploring football independence and fighting against a federal bill. "If we have to go independent," the president says, "I like our chances." bit.ly/3UKPRN3
