The mayor used ghostwritten “research” from ‘Great Cities Initiative’ to propagate this bullshit. GCI surveyed 446 people, including youths for some reason, and is produced by the extreme leftist school, UIC, in partnership with the mayor’s office. Unbelievable but totally predictable gaslighting by MBJ @RaymondALopez @AldReilly @AldermanTabares @JennyGooz @DanButtersChi @StuLoren @AJManaseer

Chicago will declare its first surplus!
I propose a new tax in Chicago.
The proposed tax will only affect the ppl holding office, not private citizens.
Any person elected to office using the following words or phrases needs to pay $100 (per word, for any form of the word) to fill the budget.
Disinvestment
Racism
Slavery
Donald Trump
Republicans
ICE
Invest In People
Social Program
Dehumanizing Language
Richard Nixon
Working Families
Tax The Rich
Fair Share
Defund
Fully-Fund

Five hundred fucking dollars fee to register with the City of Chicago to be a home based business is ACTUALLY in Mayor Johnson's 2027 budget.
Seriously, GTFO.
Last year’s FY2026 budget has $167M in vacancies included in the budget. Those funds were sold as jobs that provide service but in reality were meant to create a cash flow buffer for the administration. I can’t wait to see how much fake space is included in the latest budget.

SUSANA MENDOZA ON MAYOR JOHNSON’S BUDGET PROPOSAL
Mayor Johnson has made his ‘Fair Share’ of mistakes managing the City’s finances and his budget proposal is another attempt to unload the burden of his mismanagement on Chicago businesses and working families.
Let’s be clear: the Mayor says his tax proposals target large businesses. But he has again misread the real-world impact of his taxes.
His proposed Head Tax will hurt workers by killing jobs. His push to borrow another $480 million saddles Chicagoans with more high-interest debt they can’t afford. And his Personal Property Lease Transaction Tax (PPLT) - already one of the highest in the nation - will stifle growth in critical sectors like our tech ecosystem and drive up everyday costs from rideshares to streaming services.
Chicago is in a fiscal crisis. We must grow our economy, not tax it into decline. As Mayor, I will bring a smarter, more collaborative approach to the budget process so we can grow our City and invest in every neighborhood.
