ALT Troy Lee Hudson, a scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, points to the tattoo sleeve on his arm. The tattoo represents a map of the solar system at the time of his birth. His ring finger rests on an image of Jupiter on his inner elbow. An image of Saturn sits above it on his bicep. Below his elbow an image of Mars is visible. Each of the planets are encircled with a ring of block-like designs — these are the "Heads-Up Display" (HUD) rings encoding the mass of the bodies shown in 32-bit binary. Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech

ALT A mirror section for XRISM, the upcoming X-ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission, stands on a dark table of polished stone. The mirror is a quarter-circle approximately one foot high, with concentric arcs radiating out from the center, supported by a metal casing. The background, a laboratory or workshop, is out of focus. ALT iss068e017257 (Oct. 14, 2022) --- NASA astronaut and Expedition 68 Flight Engineer Frank Rubio checks tomato plants growing inside the International Space Station for the XROOTS space botany study. The tomatoes were grown without soil using hydroponic and aeroponic nourishing techniques to demonstrate space agricultural methods to sustain crews on long term space flights farther away from Earth where resupply missions become impossible. ALT iss068e043130 (Jan. 30, 2023) --- NASA astronaut and Expedition 68 Flight Engineer Frank Rubio replaces experiment samples and research hardware inside the International Space Station's Combustion Integrated Rack for a study exploring how fires burn in weightlessness to improve fire safety techniques in space.

ALT iss069e004389 (April 20, 2023) --- NASA astronaut and Expedition 69 Flight Engineer Frank Rubio works to install the NanoRacks CubeSat Deployer inside the Kibo laboratory module's airlock. After the airlock is depressurized, the Japanese robotic arm grapples the deployer and places it outside in the vacuum of microgravity pointing it away from the International Space Station. CubeSats from private, governmental, and academic organizations are then deployed into Earth orbit for a variety of research objectives.

In this video, NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy sheds light on the significant contributions of small businesses within NASA's operations.

ALT White wildfire smoke descends from Canada in this Terra satellite image centered over Lake Michigan, showing the green and brown surface of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio. Lake Michigan and Lake Huron appear blue, white clouds cover the left and right of the image. Credit: NASA image courtesy Jeff Schmaltz, MODIS Rapid Response Team

ALT Earth appears as a blue dot in the lower right of the image, and the Moon can be seen as a faint object to the Earth's right in this photo taken by the Cassini spacecraft on July 19, 2003. Saturn's rings are clearly captured, framing the photograph from above. Stars dot the space below Saturn's rings as well.

ALT Alt text: A close-up view of an astronaut's boot and bootprint in the lunar soil, photographed with a 70mm lunar surface camera during the Apollo 11 lunar surface extravehicular activity. The image is black and white. The astronaut’s boot is lifting from the imprint it has made in the lunar soil in the top left corner of the image. A long shadow extends from the astronaut’s boot toward the right side of the image. The ground is textured with rocks and pebbles. Credit: NASA

ALT The Moon's shadow obscures the Sun, making the Sun appear like a black disk. The solar corona is emphasized and solar prominences are visible leaping from the surface. Dramatic whisps of solar energy emanate from the Sun. The rest of the image is dark. The CATE 2024 team produced this view of the solar corona from images recorded in two polarization angles during a total solar eclipse in Australia on April 20, 2023. ALT Eight members of the recovery team are captured participating in helicopter training in preparation for the retrieval of the sample return capsule from NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Department of Defense's Utah Test and Training Range. The sample was collected from the asteroid Bennu in October 2020 by NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft and will return to Earth on September 24th, landing under parachute at the Utah Test and Training Range. ALT A photograph taken from slightly above a steel worktable shows pieces of the ventilator VITAL as two people work on it. The two people, who are wearing masks over their noses and mouths, are sitting at the table and working on a piece of wiring at the end of the light-blue-colored VITAL ventilator. On the steel worktable, there is ventilation tubing, yellow charge cables, wiring, a red sign that says "Flight Hardware. Do Not Touch," red and black wires toward the top of the table, various sizes of black Allen wrenches, and yellow, blue, red, and green smaller wires near the VITAL ventilator at the end of the table and close to one of the people working on it. Underneath the table are light brown cardboard boxes of various sizes.
