Very concerned that our branch delegates have been unable to vote on a very important motion today at #usdc21 - how can we have faith in outcomes if delegates can’t vote? @unisontheunion @cmcanea

We will be joining our sister unions in recommending that only staff needed to look after vulnerable and children of key workers should return to schools on Monday, similar to the first lockdown

This deal is better than nothing. But not by much. This agreement is on the PM’s head. It’s his responsibility to make sure working families don’t end up worse off. The govt must build on this deal to protect jobs. And unions will not accept any diluting of workers’ rights.

We’ve worked very hard in partnership with managers & elected members to keep @readingcouncil staff & the public in #rdguk safe. We will continue to do so in the face of continual uncertainty from @10DowningStreet which doesn’t help us to fully support the local community!
I’m sure everyone across Reading will be as disappointed as I am by the Tier 4 news, & very frustrated & even angry too. We’ve not had any detail from Government yet, but the Council will update as soon as we’re able. And we’ll do whatever we can to support those in our community

What drives people to such despicable behaviour! Hardworking guy, trying to earn an honest living, when supposedly civil people hurl vile abuse and try to remove his turban, calling him Taliban. Hope @TVP_Reading doing their best to catch the racists. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-be…

We know this government is ideologically opposed to the mere idea of trade unions, but it would do well to listen to us, that includes you @AlokSharma_RDG. All summer @unisontheunion , @cyclingkev & others said a reliable testing regime must be in place for schools! #SecondWave

In March UNISON members in adult social care were told to place hospital patients in care homes quickly to free up NHS beds. vulnerable people were discharged without a Covid19 test. Many care home residents died. Has nothing been learned? @unisontheunion this is unacceptable.
Replying to @PaulBrandITV
We are also hearing stories of homes once again being asked if they will take patients who haven’t yet got a test result. The government insists no home will be forced to take Covid patients / untested patients. But that it’s right for some homes to accept them.

A majority of the public think all NHS staff should get an early pay rise. We delivered our pay claim to the Prime Minister, which would add at least £2,000 on to every NHS pay point by the end of this year. We asked members in the NHS what this would mean to them. #OneTeam2k

Today myself & @ReadingCouncil leader @JN_Brock wrote to @educationgovuk @GavinWilliamson to express our concerns around the lack of testing facilities & the impact this is having on schools. Our schools are doing all they can to stay open, they need the Govt to do their bit.

Read this from a @ReadingCouncil Cllr re: #COVID19 testing. Glad you got it eventually @CllrSarahHacker and hope your son gets well soon. The unions said from the off we need a fit for purpose test and trace system in place for schools to reopen @UNISONSE @unisontheunion
Finally got a test in Newbury via my laptop after 25 1/2 hrs. Same site & details on my mobile offered me Bristol Airport, which I was actually going to do because we have a car & can afford the fuel. Not everybody can. This is a mess. We are being failed. @BBCSouthNews #rdguk

Headteachers have been sent this tonight by govt. Essentially a tiered contingency plan for locking down schools, in case the worst happens in their area. Teachers saying that being sent it on Friday eve before term starts is far from ideal though... gov.uk/government/publicatio…
Big it up for all our branch members who pitched in to help with this - a great effort #regulation
We are extending a big thank you to everyone involved in the One Reading Community Hub. Over 5,342 calls were made to the hub helpline. Thanks to the hub and its team of volunteers, over 3,500 vulnerable received vital food deliveries. rdgcouncil.co.uk/OneReadingC… #rdguk #rdg
