What are you doing next Wednesday? If you are investing or just enjoying CS items.... Here is what I think that could happen, with 3 different scenarios, when the game comes out: Scenario 1 - We are years without new gloves/knives and Operations, and this could be a big indicator that CS2 will come out with A LOT of new items: new map collections, new Operation drops + new cases + probably some new type of cosmetic items + who knows what. This tends to be extremely deflationary for the old liquid items, because the demand for the new items will be way higher than the old ones. So people simply sell the old, to buy the new. Also, all the new players that join the game pumping the player-base, will be also playing and getting those same new items as drops, adding a lot of sell pressure in the market, competing with the old ones. And, on top of that, there was A LOT of speculation when CS2 was announced, which led to skins prices being FOMO bought and hoarded. So, all those skins that are now stored as investments, are hoping that the new players that join CS2, decide to buy heavily into skins, which doesn't make much sense, because new players don't just join the game and spend thousands in skins out of nowhere, especially in CS, that items fluctuate in prices. New players take a long time to enjoy the game, until they decide to buy skins, understand the market and eventually feel confident to spend a few thousands in pixels, and while that happens, new items will be increasing in supply, and the demand for the old ones will be decreasing, and so will prices. Scenario 2 - There is also the possibility that scenario 1 happens, but all items pump out irrationality and emotion, a combo that fuels our economy a lot. So, if that happens, once CS2 comes, everything will start pumping and, meanwhile, the new items will keep being dropped and increasing in supply, up until a point that things start naturally adjusting, and prices reach a balance point, impossible to guess what it will be. Scenario 3 - This scenario is very unlikely, but if CS2 comes out with NO new items being added (gloves, knives, OP items, cases), and the player-base pumps hard, eventually everything will probably also get pumped. Tho, keep in mind that a lot of liquid item prices already got pumped, while the player-base did not follow. So the investment potential, for most items, is not as high as people are imagining. Conclusion: This market is extremely irrational and short-term minded. It does not price the future and it follows weird patterns. So, take everything I say with a grain of salt, and don't take anything as facts. I don't have a crystal ball to predict the future, this is just my simple OPINION. And never invest more than you can afford to lose. Anyways, I will keep updating while things start happening, so leave a follow so you don't miss out.
