I really, really want to make Pan de Muerta. I've never done it before. The recipe I found is a bit time consuming. We'll see. I'm thinking of 4 versions: Powdered sugar Sugar crystals Orange glaze Plain w/dulce de Leche sauce for a dip

No doubt. But do it anyway.
We've reached the point where just writing a coherent sentence will make someone suspect you of using AI.

So very sad to hear this.

Had the best night tonight. I'd been invited to a milestone birthday party for one of the subjects of my upcoming true crime book. Many of their family members attended. Their friends. Generations coming together. There was joy and sentimental tears - including mine. Such gracious people. I got to see one of them I'd not seen since I worked on the original documentary over two decades ago. It was incredibly special. And I got yet another updated photo for the book. Would love to share it, but I'm holding it back to include in the book. What this family has been through is shocking. And yet there is so much love between them all. Anyone who spends time with them can feel it. I truly can't wait to finish the revision and get the already finished manuscript to my editors. Although there are many new revelations to come, and plenty for law enforcement to follow up on, there will also be a sense of peace (to whatever extent possible). Mostly, there is the love they still have for each other and their large circle of "adopted" family, which was evident tonight in their smiles.

I've no doubt I'll get screeched at for this, but the remake of England's "Doc Martin" is awful. They remade it for us here in America, but it's very overblown and not at all charming. Just fast-talking "Louisa," too-sassy Aunt Joan, and caricatures of Bert and Al. I always loved Josh Charles as Knox Overstreet. But whether it's the similar scripts without the heart or the overacting of literally every actor (thus, the director??), it just doesn't cut it. As good as Annie Potts is, she and every other actor seem incapable of connecting with the characters, the scripts, and each other. Give me Martin Clunes, Caroline Catz, Katherine Parkinson and the whole British team. This isn't good at all. I'd recommend watching the original.

This hits deep today. So much pressure.

Gee, Heather, why are you writers so upset about AI?? You're soooo "out of touch."
So, you can’t write, you won’t try, and you’re not remotely embarrassed about having no original thoughts of your own - you need a slop machine to do it for you. Absolutely astounding self own and you really should be embarrassed because … bruh. Like … you have a brain. Use it

Writing is hard work. It is gathering ten times as much material as can ever be used. This information has to be gleaned to get the best possible use from it. The reader has to be convinced that the writer knows what he is writing about. —John Steinbeck—

So ... My husband and I live in the vicinity of the "Stallion Fire" - which started yesterday morning at 8:45am (arson). There are two other, older fires in the north above and northeast of Reno. The biggest, the "Bug Fire" (also arson) has burned for 3 days and has burned nearly 17K acres. Our fire, which is currently 20 miles from our town, has burned 20K acres. In 24 hours. We're packed and awaiting any orders to evacuate. If that order comes, or if I-80 closes down, or if we lose power - as some have while firefighters do their thing - we're leaving our home. It's surreal the things we'll lose in a worst-case scenario. Too much, and too terrible to name. It's not just the house. It's generations worth of art, antique furniture, photos, etc. Not just the "things" themselves, but the memories and lived ones they represent. Of course, we wouldn't be the first to have our lives go up in smoke. We wouldn't be the last, either. But it hurts. Hopefully, the fire will be contained before it reaches our town. Or the wind will mercifully shift. Maybe all the panic will be for naught. I hope they catch the person who ignited the fire and intended to bring such suffering. (Attached graphic is the most recent we have.)

Hubby's birthday today. So I'm trying to be extra nice and going with the flow of "his day." In the meantime, 3 people have p*ssed me off so far - including him.

Thanks, Hank!
I'm an old coot who currently works in the publishing industry and has worked in the rock music world. I've found 2 authors who capture the essence of each of those industries in their work. One is @DzintraSullivan and her Murder, They Wrote, set in the book publishing world, and the other is @RealHeatherOB and her Music is Murder Saga set in the Rock music world - both authors have put forth compelling narratives that actually ring true to those of us who have worked there - peace y'all

When you get up early to start your big revision project, but then get sidetracked talking the cable company for nearly three hours over a recent rate increase. The bad news: it really derailed my plans for the day. The good news: my rate went from $120/mo to $50/mo with a 3-year freeze (and better speeds). Not complaining.
