Today sees a major step forward in evidence-based practice in children’s social care 👏@educationgovuk’s move to mandate family–led approaches by local authorities can help divert children from care and ensure they stay with their families where it’s safe to do so. This decision is based on our evidence that #FamilyGroupConferences (FGCs) have a significant impact in reducing the number of children who go into care. We worked with @Coram on the first ever FGC trial in the UK involving 2,500 children in 1,500 families. It showed that children whose families were offered an FGC before court proceedings were less likely than those not referred to be in care one year later. We welcome the government’s commitment to early, evidence-based interventions in children’s social care to ensure that children and families receive effective support at critical moments: gov.uk/government/publicatio…

This amusingly but informatively captures the intractable dilemma faced by Jeremy Hunt as he considers inheritance tax cuts in the autumn statement. The Conservative (brexity) base is now broadly reduced to people who shop M&S and people who shop at Iceland.

My name is Katie White and I’m putting myself forward to be the next Labour MP for Leeds North West. As the local candidate – born and bred here in this seat – and the candidate with the national track record of winning tough fights, I have the energy, experience and determination to make a difference. If you’re a Labour member in Leeds NW, come join my campaign or come for a cuppa and a chat. I’d love to speak to you.

I worked on some 60 fiscal events over 31 years. I can't remember any generating as strong a market reaction as to today's. The £ is currently down over 3% v $, 1.8% v € and 2.5% v ¥. And the cost of borrowing up 40bp at short end and 20bp at long end. #justsaying
HM Treasury's worst nightmare is a rising cost of borrowing and a falling pound. It may just be a blip but the rise in gilt yields across the curve and the fall in the £ today against the $, € and ¥ is a cause for concern. #soundmoney #abacuseconomics

Never fully understood why someone being rude and aggressive towards a politician is seen as a reflection on the politician rather than the person being rude and aggressive.
