For once, albeit accidentally, Putin has told the truth: long-term peace in Ukraine is only possible by “eliminating the root causes of this crisis.”
The main “root cause” is an old deranged KGB officer in the Kremlin who views the collapse of the Soviet empire as “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century”, calls his opponents “national traitors” and Ukraine “an artificial state”, and idolizes Stalin and Andropov.
Without “eliminating” this “root cause” there will not be peace not only in Ukraine, but in Europe as a whole.

Today is the anniversary of when I was wounded and captured on a mission in #Libya in 2011, becoming a POW for nearly 6 months before escaping from prison and returning to combat.
It is also the day that this photo has been released of five Ukrainian POWs executed by #Russia.
The West needs to change its mindset about this war before it is too late.
Russia doesn't respect the Geneva Convention or any other attempts to establish international norms of conduct, and has been a destabilizing force to civilization since its founding.
You cannot deal with Russia as you would with other countries, expecting that you can integrate them into the community of nations and that their behavior will change, because it never does.
Ending this war with anything less than a victory for #Ukraine only passes the problem of Russia forward to future generations.
They will see photos of Russian atrocities from our time, and seeing similar photos from their own time as well, they will judge us harshly for our failure to stop Russia now.
