Great everyone is enjoying the Rec in the sun, but sadly some children have been cycling & wheeling at speed through the dog area, across the grass & flower beds, causing damage & harming wildlife. If we follow the SCC Code of Conduct for Green Spaces, everyone can enjoy the Rec
Our gardeners worked hard alongside the kids activities yesterday. Laila multitasked, helping with activities & weeding, Jo made 2 wigwams from branches that had to be cut back on the Lime tree and Russell rescued an Elder that was being smothered by ivy. Well done everyone!
Great first FoPR Kids activity morning for 2026 today. Thanks to everyone who came, Garth for the photos and all our amazing volunteer helpers for organising
Sunday 21st March was perfect for gardening. Warm, sunny & birds singing in the blossoming trees. We tackled nettles, dead heading & pruned the lime tree by the tennis court. Still plenty to do if anyone fancies joining us now and then!!
Our first kids activity morning for 2026 is on Easter Saturday. Why not bring your children along for some free fun activities at the Rec?
Don't forget our AGM tomorrow starting at 7.45pm at the Scout Hut in Brickfield Road. Please join us. There will be refreshments and a short talk about wildlife gardening in France from Barbara Claridge HonSec at Highfield Residents' Association after the main AGM business
Spring has arrived in the garden area and our doughty bunch of gardening volunteers have started up again for the season
Can you help us run our FoPR Kids sessions this year? It's great fun and only takes a few hours a month. Please get in touch if you can help
Looking for something to do with the children in half term? Why not join our friends at Friends of St. James Park for some nature fun activities?
Recent visitors to the Rec may have noticed our @HIWWTConserve Collective Action for Nature award proudly displayed at the Upp Grosvenor Rd entrance. Thanks to our volunteer Pete for fixing the sign & also recently sharpening our gardening tools and fixing a donated wheelbarrow
Thanks to Anja for these lovely photos of the snowdrops around the bench in the garden area. Spring is definitely on the way!
Garth, Russell, Tony and Jo from our gardening volunteers had an amazing time @AldermoorFarm last weekend learning how to make compost, so they will be well prepared for the new compost bins we are buying with money from @WestSolentSolar grant to help gardening at the Rec
