ALT We demand accountability. Columbia University Archive theft.

ALT Columbia University archivist who seized confiscated materials from the encampment without consent disingenuously said: “I’m not sure I would call it stolen material”

ALT Leaked Columbia University meeting transcript reveals theft and blatant disregard for ethics. “According to public safety, the students seemed pleased that the material was being preserved for historical purposes which is what we are doing. The students were informed by public safety that the theft was happening. The students were given a chance to get their materials back.” These are lies.

ALT The students never consented for their confiscated private belongings to be donated to Columbia University archives. When questioned about provenance (a fundamental principle of archives, referring to the individual, family, or organization that created or received the items in a collection. The prying or source of something.), the archivist said: “material was taken into custody by public safety. they/public safety handed that over to us at our request.” Any professional archivist can tell you that confiscation is not consent.
