I tweeted this when it came out, but I’m only just now understanding the power and community of #MedTwitter and #MedStudentTwitter. Sorry, I’m new to this whole tweeting thing
"Five of the first ten patients I cared for passed away. For a new physician — for anyone, really — this amount of death is disturbing. I remember the names and faces of each of them." Doctor @RedelTraub on the first weeks in the hospital during COVID-19 nym.ag/2zG6cJa

What a BEAUTIFUL morning it was 😃

#MedTwitter, when you’re on nights do you send non-urgent emails during your shift? I want to get things done, but I also feel like a psycho sending a work email at 3am?!?

Though I am obviously thrilled like many of you about editorials condemning anti-scientific propaganda of the Trump administration in @ScienceMagazine @TheLancet @NEJM, I think we maybe also should be asking: what took so long?

The idea that the healthcare, science and politics are not inextricably entangled is not a defensible position. COVID has helped highlight this but it didn’t bring the relationship into existence.

Our beacons of science/medicine and its editorial gatekeepers should always strive to reflect this fact #MedTwitter

When a tenet that is often presented as a categorical imperative—treat all patients/don’t rejoice in suffering—comes into tension with utilitarian desires for a better world (which Trump not being in office will certainly help bring about) we should sit with that discomfort.

Virtue signaling/taking the moral high ground by referencing our sacred duty as physicians when two days ago you were crying bloody murder about our monstrous president seems incongruous/disingenuous to me.

What is this way of phrasing tweets, and why is #MedTwitter obsessed with it?
Anyone else noticing that they are repeatedly shocked at what the lower half of someone’s face looks like.

I guess my mind creates some mental expectation. And to my surprise it’s almost never correct when I eventually am eating lunch with that person and see there lower half

These are thoughts rushing through my head on a black weekend in COVID times

America’s strangle hold on those most vulnerable in healthcare and society at large is terrifying. I can’t breathe is something I wish we’d never hear in the hospital and outside it. Let’s be bold for our patients and bold in our politics #MedTwitter

I genuinely think listening to medicine related things at 2x speed is making me a more impatient person. But also can you hurry up and get to the point?! #MedStudentTwitter #medtwitter

1/ After another lecture focusing on health disparities, I find myself incredibly frustrated with medical pedagogy. #medstudenttwitter #medtwitter

5/ we shy away from saying what needs to be said in these lectures, I think because of political cowardice. As a physician we need to see this data about systemic racism and health outcomes as a call to action to fight for major political change in our country.
