Chess is played on a 64-square board, but after just the first four moves by each player, there are over 84 billion possible positions. 🤯
Q. What accessories should I buy with a chess set?
A. A chess clock is useful for timed games, while a storage box or bag helps keep your pieces safe. A board cover can also protect your chessboard when it’s not in use. Beyond that, it’s really down to personal preference! ⏰📦
Our customer left us this wonderful review for the Hand-Painted Crusader Chessmen:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Beautifully crafted, exactly as described and in a lovely presentation box for each piece to sit in. Packaged extremely well and fast delivery."

Castling is the only chess move in which two pieces move at the same time. ♔♜
In one move, your king slides two squares toward a rook, and that rook hops to the square the king just crossed. It’s the only time your king can move more than one square.
This week's product showcase features one of our new bundles - the Italian Luxury Metal & Leather Draughts Set!
This superb-looking set combines silver and gold coloured playing pieces with a genuine handcrafted leather board, which offers a very old-school feel.
Q. What’s the difference between ebonised and ebony chess pieces?
A. Ebonised chess pieces are usually made from boxwood that has been stained or treated to resemble ebony. Ebony chess pieces are carved from genuine ebony wood, a naturally dark, dense hardwood.
Our customer, Ju, was looking to buy a chessboard as a gift for his brother, for his existing set of pieces.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"The board arrived quickly and was very well packaged. I was very pleased (as was my brother!) as it was great quality and matched his pieces perfectly."

♜ Designed in 1849 and endorsed by chess master Howard Staunton, the Staunton design became the universal standard for chess sets and remains the pattern used in tournaments today.
We even sell faithful reproductions of the original 1849 sets on our website!
This week's product showcase features one of our less-talked-about accessories - the chessboard felt pads! 🟢
These handy little sticky-backed pads are designed to be positioned on each corner of your board (with two to spare, just in case).
Q. Should I choose wood, resin or metal chess pieces?
A. Wood offers a classic, traditional feel, resin is perfect for detailed themed designs, and metal gives your set a distinctive look and satisfying weight. The best choice comes down to your personal style and budget.
Doug came to us looking for a set of wooden chess pieces that would complement his existing alabaster chessboard.
Our Corinthian Tres Corone set, complete with 51 beautifully crafted chessmen, turned out to be the perfect match.
Thanks, Doug, for the wonderful photo!
Q: How should I store my chess set?
A: Keep it somewhere cool, dry, and out of direct sunlight. Excessive heat and humidity are a wooden set's worst enemies. Store pieces in a dedicated box or bag rather than loose in a drawer, and keep the board flat and clear of anything heavy
Thanks to Maryna for sharing her feedback with us about her new Black Flower Chess Set, including this wonderful photo.

The knight is the only chess piece that can jump over other pieces. 🐴
While every other piece can be blocked by something standing in its path, the knight leaps over anything in between!

This week's spotlight: a beautifully crafted Mahjong set from Dal Negro of Italy. 🇮🇹
Complete with premium resin tiles, wooden tile racks, a wind indicator, dice, and counting sticks for scoring - everything you need in one set. Available in both US and European versions.
Q. Does the size of the chess pieces matter?
A. Yes - the pieces should be properly proportioned to the board, with enough space between them to make the position easy to see and move. A large set on a small board can feel cramped; small pieces on a large board can look lost.
