I coached with Tubby 7 yrs at UK. One of the best in-game adjustment coaches to ever do it. Yes. Most definitely underrated!
My first college basketball job was covering Tubby’s first four years at Minnesota. Underrated coach in college basketball history. Glad he received this honor. Also, he once told me the greatest Dave Chappelle story and I hope he puts it in a book someday.

He is right about the complaining the entire game to the refs, the flopping etc. The entire league does it. Makes it hard to watch. Good to see a rookie call this out. Would like to see more vets call it out and challenge each other to just go out play and compete
Yaxel Lenderborg on his NBA debut and guarding Luka: "I got to see what the NBA is like, man. Lot of flopping, lot of foul baiting, lot of praying to the ref. Interesting first game for me... Being in there firsthand, just watching all the whining and complaining, I lost all respect. That was awful" Transcript of this soundbite: "Yeah, it was interesting. I got to see what the NBA is like, man. Lot of flopping, lot of foul baiting, lot of praying to the ref. Interesting first game for me, for sure. I had a lot of respect for him (Luka). You know, just watching. I didn't really watch the NBA much, I just watched highlights. Seeing him, you know, kill people all the time. But then being in there firsthand, just watching all the whining and complaining, I lost all respect, man. Like that was awful. Like me getting frustrated, it's not about the foul being called, it's about him complaining the entire game. And then you get the foul call, congratulations bro. And then you talk to me like you did something great, bro? Come on, dog. That's just weak. It kinda threw me off for a little while, cause you know, like I said, I had so much respect for him. Gone man, gone. I was telling him he sucks, he can't score on me. You talking and you can't score on me. I said it the whole game. I said a couple cuss words obviously, you know, that's why I got the technical and all that. But I was letting him know, because he was laughing and talking all this because of that one foul call. His only bucket on me was a banker from half court. Like I know that it's a team sport. You know, he had 28pts on us as a team. Me, I took my matchup personally. Tried not to get caught on the fouls. Tried my best. I was thinking about playing him with my hands behind my back to see if that worked, probably would've still got a foul call." Transcript via: reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1x…

We challenged them and the leaders stepped up. The rest is history. Literally. lol
I was coming in here to ask the same thing. From what I remember, it was a sluggish first half, then a second half romp!

Exactly. Each time he see Luka go at him and learn something each time he can use to his advantage the next time. Thats called competing.
Draymond Green on Yaxel Lendeborg going at Luka Doncic: “Everyone will say the rookie learned his lesson. What he learn? The next time he see him, go at his ass again.” Full soundbite

At the end of the day it’s about having the ability to assemble and develop the type of talent to compete for conference and NCAA championships. Money does not guarantee this.
How expensive is this UK roster? Mark Pope: “We’re Kentucky. We’re always going to be really, really competitive in terms of NIL.” But… “We’re rarely going to live in a place where we offer the most money.” READ: on3.com/teams/kentucky-wildc…

I was an assistant coach on that team. One of the greatest runs in UK history!
Team ended up being one of best college defensive teams I’ve seen. Still believe we would have won it all if Bogans hadn’t gotten injured!

No disrespect to Cooper. But he can’t touch Larry Bird. Coop will be a great player in the NBA for a long time. Larry gave it to everybody when they actually played D in the league and it was more physical. This is just click bate noise.
Byron Scott on DeMarcus Cousins comments saying Larry Bird wasn’t doing it like Cooper Flagg: “Cooper Flagg don’t got sh*t on Larry Bird. I’m gonna tell you that straight up. Larry Bird to me still is and I even hate saying it like this the coldest white boy I’ve ever seen play basketball because of the fact that he hated for white boys to even guard him because he thought that was disrespectful.” It’s definitely a tough to even compare a guy to Larry Bird that’s only played one season let him play his career out then let’s have this debate at the end of his career.

I signed Joe Crawford to Kentucky off that team when i was an assistant coach at Kentucky. They had a squad. Dwane Casey was one of my assistant coaches my Fr and So year when i played at Kentucky!

When Coach Pitino came to UK my jr season he hired Billy Donavan as the GA. His 1st season coaching. He ran conditioning with us, practiced with us and educated us on how to handle and succeed in Coach P’s intense system. Great person.
Mark Daigneault on Billy Donovan becoming a Spurs assistant: “I don't know how many people, if I'm being honest, are humble enough to go in the Hall of Fame in September and then take an assistant coaching job in May or June. But he's one of them.”
