The people of Peckham did not vote for, and will not benefit from, new oil and gas drilling.
Before her election, Labour MP Miatta Fahnbulleh repeatedly opposed new oil and gas.
Now in power, it looks like she'll approve it.
Peckham deserves better.

❗️INFORMATION: Rye Lane in Peckham is currently closed because of a potentially dangerous structure at the former cinema site at 114-116 Rye Lane.
Traffic diversions are in place and further investigation, including a structural assessment, is underway. At this stage we do not have an update on when the road will reopen.

🚒 recruit more firefighters, paid and equipped properly, reopen closed stations
🛢️no new licenses for oil and gas, definitely no fracking or “clean coal”
⚡️ decarbonise existing energy system (~10% reduction yoy)
🦫 extensive beaver Rewilding programme + other flood strengthening of infrastructure
🍎 build council small holdings, in pursuit of food sovereignty

On the anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, we remember the 72 people who died and their friends, families and loved ones who continue to seek justice.
We remember also the six people who died at Lakanal House in our borough in 2009, the people who were injured, and the lives that were changed forever.
Southwark Council is deeply aware of the responsibility we have on fire and building safety. We have taken action to make our council homes safe, and it continues to be the top priority of this administration.
