Yet somehow, the drama managed to deliver the kind of atmosphere and visual quality that had viewers hooked. Even the director admitted he never expected the series to resonate with so many people. The producer also said the team was surprised by how widely audiences embraced it. Then came the unexpected success! Within its first week, The Early Spring reached No. 2 on Netflix's Global Non-English TV chart, attracting 2.4 million views and 21.5 million hours watched. It also entered the Top 10 in 22 markets. A drama that started with such modest production resources ended up becoming one of the biggest Chinese drama success stories of 2026. Honestly, this is a reminder that you don't always need a massive budget, expensive CGI or extravagant locations to make a successful drama.
