Interesting to see how oil exporter economies have performed since the oil price crash in 2014: Russia (up 5%) beating oil exporting peer Saudi (-9%), Nigeria (-11%) beating African peer Angola (-25%), Canada (up 2%) beating Iran (-2%) - not sure they're exact peers

The surge of inflows to emerging market equities has amounted to $5-6bn in nearly every week since Trump's election defeat We called it in May 2020, but assumed global investors would only re-allocate to EM in a big way once the election result was clear
If like us, you think President Biden is going to be helpful for emerging markets, because the dollar might get gently more competitive (helping US jobs too) - join us next week as we look at which countries will fare best in 2021: South Africa, Russia, Nigeria, Egypt, Vietnam?

Just 4 countries, representing 3% of the Third World population (a dated term but you know what Bairoch means) ... accounted for 2/3 of all manufacturing exports by the Third World in 1990. Incredible how the world has changed in just 30 years

I've been struggling to understand why Nigeria would spend $2bn getting a Portuguese firm to build a railway line (Kano to Maradi in Niger) to one of the poorest nations on earth. This story suggests politics and oil from Niger to Katsina is part of it guardian.ng/opinion/the-stra…
