I represent Colorado’s Third District, and I will always put our communities first. When I took office, I swore an oath to the Constitution and to the people I serve. Every vote I cast is guided by what is best for this district and the long-term strength of our country. Leadership requires independent judgment and the willingness to stand on principle. My focus remains on delivering results for rural Colorado: • Strengthening American energy production • Supporting our farmers and ranchers • Restoring fiscal discipline • Protecting our water resources • Backing our veterans and law enforcement That’s the job I was elected to do — and I’ll keep doing it with conviction, optimism, and a deep gratitude for the people I serve.

I grew up in Grand Junction playing Grand Mesa Little League baseball, so it was great to come back and celebrate another generation of Grand Mesa players. Baseball is one of the few sports where sacrifice is literally written into the scorebook. Sometimes your job is to give something up so somebody else can move forward. That’s a pretty good lesson for life. Congratulations to the boys on repeating as Colorado State Champions and to the Senior Softball girls on their first state championship since 2006. I’m especially proud that both teams also earned sportsmanship awards at regionals. They didn’t just represent Western Colorado well on the scoreboard, they represented us well in how they played the game. A special thank you to Grand Mesa Baseball & Softball President Chris Riley and Vice President Dave Mantlo for their leadership, and to all the coaches, parents, and volunteers who made the season possible. #CO03

Flooding across Southwest Colorado and the San Luis Valley has forced evacuations, damaged roads and bridges, and left some residents stranded.  Thank you to the Colorado National Guard, local law enforcement, firefighters, emergency crews, and everyone working to keep people safe.  Please continue to take this flooding seriously and follow instructions from local officials. #CO03  More information on the National Guard response: co.ng.mil/News/Archives/Arti…

Aging natural gas pipes can put essential services at risk and leave small communities facing costly repairs. In Trinidad and Walsenburg, federal funding is helping replace that infrastructure—keeping homes warm, businesses running, and essential services reliable. I sat down with local leaders to see the work firsthand and discuss what additional investment could mean for communities across Southern Colorado. As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I've supported extending the federal grant program that helps small communities make these improvements. Seeing this work firsthand reinforces why these investments matter: keeping essential services safe and reliable while helping small communities manage the cost of maintaining aging infrastructure. #CO03

Severe rainfall and flooding have caused extensive damage across Archuleta County. I’ve spoken with Sheriff LeRoux and county commissioners about what they’re seeing on the ground and what these communities need as they begin assessing the damage. My office is also in contact with state and federal agencies so we’re ready to help as local officials determine what assistance is needed. I’ll stay closely engaged with Archuleta County as the situation develops and the recovery begins. #CO03

Congratulations to the Durango Demons on a 50–0 win last night. I recently spoke with the team as part of their leadership series and asked these young men: What habits are you building in this football program that you want to take with you when football is over? The most important ones—the ability to work when you don’t feel like it, take responsibility, get back up when you’re knocked down, tell the truth, and sacrifice for your teammates—can stay with you for the rest of your life. Thanks to Coach Herron for the invite, and congratulations again to the Demons on a big win. Heart. Grit. Demons. #CO03

From a rainy morning in Bayfield to a sunny afternoon in Towaoc, our Coffee with Your Congressman series continued yesterday across Southwest Colorado. Over the past several months, we’ve held these events in Mesa, Garfield, Pueblo, La Plata, and Montezuma counties. They’re announced publicly, open to anyone from #CO03, and no RSVP is required. The point is simple: give constituents a chance to ask me questions directly, raise concerns, offer criticism, and tell me what they’re seeing in their communities. Thanks to everyone who joined us in Bayfield and Towaoc, and to the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe for hosting us. We’ll keep bringing these conversations across the district. Watch local news, my social media, and sign up for the Hurd Huddle for upcoming events.

Thank you to everyone from La Plata and Archuleta Counties who joined me in Bayfield this morning for Coffee with Your Congressman! We had a good conversation about the issues facing our communities, and I appreciated the thoughtful questions, honest feedback, and even some constructive criticism. You don’t have to agree with me to have a seat at the table. Listening to the people I represent is one of the most important parts of my job. Next stop: Towaoc! If you’re in Montezuma County, join me today at 3:00 PM at the Ute Mountain Casino (Buffalo Room). No RSVP required, and everyone is welcome. I look forward to seeing you there and continuing these conversations across #CO03.

Rural and Southern Colorado need a strong voice in the decisions that affect our communities, businesses, and local economies. I joined Action Colorado in Pueblo for a roundtable discussion with regional leaders about the challenges and opportunities facing our part of the state and the importance of keeping rural Colorado's priorities at the forefront of federal policy. Thank you to Action Colorado President Sara Blackhurst, Board Chair William Mutch, and the local business and community leaders who helped bring this conversation together. Hearing directly from those working in our communities is an important part of representing Colorado's Third District in Congress. #CO03 #ILovePueblo

Access to quality health care shouldn’t depend on your ZIP code. I visited Axis Health System in Durango today to see how its team is bringing primary care, behavioral health, dental care, pharmacy, and other services together for patients across Southwest Colorado. Thank you to CEO Shelly Burke and the entire Axis team for the work you do every day, and for the candid conversation about what it takes to sustain health care in rural Colorado. I’ll keep working to make sure rural providers have a strong voice in Washington. #CO03

Water is inseparable from the future of the Lower Arkansas Valley. I stopped by the Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservancy District today in Rocky Ford to hear directly from the people working to protect the Valley’s water, agriculture, and rural communities. After a difficult water year, and with important questions ahead about agricultural water, revegetation, and municipal water purchases, the federal government needs to know where it can be useful.  Thank you to Board Chairman Leroy Mauch and the board, as well as General Manager Jack Goble, for the thoughtful conversation. #CO03

Pueblo has jobs to fill. The challenge is making sure people have the training to fill them. A new $10.7 million Department of Labor grant puts Pueblo Community College at the center of a statewide effort to close that gap. PCC will lead a 15-institution consortium building a system that helps students earn portable credentials tied to skills employers actually need.  That matters in Pueblo, where employers, including manufacturers, need skilled workers, and it gives students a clearer path from the classroom to a good job.  It’s a significant role for PCC and a good example of what community colleges can do for the economies they serve. I welcomed DOE Office of Indian Energy Director Eric Mahroum to Grand Junction to discuss Tribal energy development and how we can better support Tribal sovereignty. The Southern Ute Indian Tribe is leading the way as the first Tribe in the nation to enter into a Tribal Energy Resource Agreement, giving it greater control over energy development on its own lands. Tribal Nations know their resources best. Washington should be focused on removing barriers, not standing in their way. #CO03

Some of the best opportunities for students in Western Colorado are right here at home. I recently toured Colorado Mesa University’s Montrose campus with Director Steve Metheny to see how they’re preparing students for good-paying careers in nursing, welding, machining, and law enforcement. The campus serves roughly 500 students, and its practical nursing program has been ranked #1 in the nation for two consecutive years. That’s an impressive accomplishment and a testament to the students, faculty, and staff. In rural Colorado, students should be able to learn valuable skills, find good-paying jobs, and build a future right here at home. Programs like these make that possible while strengthening our local workforce. Thank you to Steve and the entire CMU Montrose team for the important work you’re doing for Western Colorado. #CO03

I disagree with the Administration’s decision to waive new sanctions Congress passed to increase economic pressure on Russia. Putin started this war, and Russia continues its brutal attacks on Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure. I understand the need to lower energy costs for American families. But easing sanctions makes it easier for Russia to fund its war, with little evidence that Americans will see meaningful savings. I support efforts to bring this war to an end. But a lasting peace requires accountability, and we should not ease pressure on Russia without meaningful concessions in return. I hope the Administration reconsiders.

Representing Colorado’s Third District means understanding the communities, people, and priorities that make our district unique. That work requires consistency and certainty in who we represent. I joined @RepEdCase to introduce the bipartisan TRUST Act to put an end to mid-decade redistricting and keep Congress focused on serving constituents, not political gamesmanship. Appreciate the opportunity to discuss this important issue on @cspan. #CO03
“There’s no way I can be an effective legislator if I don’t know who my constituents are going to be in two years.” @RepJeffHurd and @RepEdCase introduced the Problem Solvers TRUST Act to end mid-decade redistricting and encourage stable district boundaries to help members understand their communities, their issues, and how best to serve them.

I appreciate my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for helping pass my bipartisan Geothermal Energy Advancement Act through the House. Western Colorado has enormous geothermal potential, and the benefits go well beyond our district. Geothermal can provide reliable American energy around the clock as electricity demand continues to grow. The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee has now advanced the bill without amendment. The next step is a vote by the full Senate. Let’s get it done. #CO03
Geothermal is America’s next leap in resource dominance. In June, the House passed @RepJeffHurd’s H.R. 5631 to cut permitting delays and unleash American geothermal energy. The House acted with bipartisan support. It’s time for the Senate to deliver.

Good news for communities in Pueblo County still recovering from the Aspen Acres Fire and flooding: the SBA has approved low-interest disaster loans for eligible homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofits. For a family, that can mean help repairing a damaged home or replacing a car, furniture, or other belongings. For a small business, it can mean help repairing property or covering payroll and bills while recovery continues. These are loans, not grants, but for people facing uninsured losses they can be an important part of rebuilding. Beginning Monday, October 19, SBA staff will be available in Pueblo to answer questions and help people apply. Walk-ins are welcome. This is one more piece of the recovery effort, and I’ll keep working for the additional help these communities need. Learn more and apply: legacy.sba.gov/article/2026/… #CO03
