Hoosier farmers, an important update: USDA announced $8 billion in one-time relief to help offset diesel and other harvest season costs. Protecting farmers’ bottom lines and keeping their operations strong is vital to ensuring they can continue to feed and fuel America and support rural communities.
Harvest relief for America’s farmers. Today, @POTUS and @SecRollins announced the Harvest Fuel Relief Program — making $8 BILLION available for one-time payments to farmers facing higher costs and market disruptions. Here’s what that means: ➡️ Payments to help cover a portion of estimated losses for the 2026 crop year. ➡️ Payment amounts based on planted acres, production costs, crop yields, and prices. ➡️ Row crop payment rates announced in November, with details for other eligible commodities to follow. ➡️ Application will be available online using a Login.gov account that is connected to USDA. 🔗 usda.gov/about-usda/news/pre…

In Indiana, 94% of farms are family-owned or operated. I know the years of work that go into caring for the land and building something your children can carry on. A huge reason I voted for the Working Families Tax Cuts was its expanded estate tax exemption, which helps more families keep their businesses going and pass their farms and traditions down to the next generation.

Today I introduced the Sudan IMPACT Act, which will establish an agricultural and minerals partnership between the United States and Sudan. Sudan’s mineral resources could help expand the supply of materials we use in technologies Americans rely on every day, like phones and cars. This legislation offers a path toward greater economic cooperation with the United States and Sudan, provided Sudan’s government shows real progress in protecting its people. baird.house.gov/news/documen…

Agricultural research helps our farmers feed and fuel the world. USDA’s $180 million Seed Sovereignty Initiative will help researchers develop stronger crop varieties that can respond to new pests and diseases, all while reducing our dependence on foreign competitors. This is a fantastic initiative from the @USDA. Farm security is national security, and this investment will help strengthen both. usda.gov/about-usda/news/pre…

12% of Indiana's energy generation comes from nuclear energy and 20% of America's portfolio. With rising energy costs and growing demand, we need to expand safe, reliable sources that can provide power 24/7. Investing in nuclear means investing in reliable American power for decades to come. *Source @IndianaOED

This August, historic flooding hit Indiana, costing Hoosier lives, and leaving widespread destruction in its wake. Our farmers are still assessing crop damages as they enter the harvest season. I’m proud to work with the American Flood Coalition as a Federal Champion on common-sense efforts that keep Hoosiers safe, boost rural economies, and protect our producers and farmlands.

Did you know Neil Armstrong went to Purdue University? Armstrong’s time at Purdue was interrupted when he served as a naval aviator during the Korean War, flying 78 combat missions. After returning to Purdue and graduating in 1955, he went on to command Gemini 8, which completed the first successful docking of two vehicles in space. Of course, Armstrong is best known for becoming the first person to walk on the Moon during Apollo 11. What started at Purdue took Armstrong to the Korean War, then to space, and ultimately to the Moon, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire Americans today.
