Absolutely heartbroken that what should have been a night of celebration for FAMU instead ended in tragedy.
My heart is with the victims, including 6 children, their loved ones, and the entire FAMU community.
We cannot accept gun violence as inevitable. We owe it to our communities to do everything in our power to end this senseless violence.

From the impact of AI data centers on our water resources to sustainable infrastructure, water reclamation, and emerging research, protecting our water and building a more resilient Orange County takes all of us at every level of government working together.
Last week, I joined @NicoleWilsonD1, @ritaforflorida, and @carlosgsmith for a legislative panel at the Environmental Advocacy Symposium to discuss how we can leverage state and federal funding to protect our natural resources and build a more sustainable future for all of us.
The Sloth World tragedy where 50+ sloths died cannot happen again.
Yesterday, on International Sloth Day, I introduced the SLOTHS Act with @RepLaurelLee to help stop the illegal trade and exploitation of wild sloths before more animals suffer.
The deaths of 50+ sloths at the planned Sloth World attraction here in Orlando were a tragedy. And we have to ensure it never happens again.
That's why today, on International Sloth Day, @RepLaurelLee and I are taking action by introducing the Stopping Legalized Organized Trafficking and Harm to Sloths Act—SLOTHS Act.
This bipartisan bill would prohibit sloth imports into the United States, with limited exceptions and ensure that the demand for these animals doesn’t continue to fuel a trade that puts their lives at risk.

I’m devastated to hear about the senseless mass shooting at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon.
My heart is completely broken for the victims, their families, & the entire community. Our students deserve to feel safe in their classrooms — and we cannot afford to wait any longer to make that a reality.
We need to end gun violence and pass meaningful legislation now.

SFC Eyvette Clayton honorably served 22 years in the United States Army and has continued her commitment to service through community leadership and veteran advocacy. For nearly a decade, she has served on the Congressman’s Service Academy Nomination Board, helping evaluate and recommend local students for admission to the nation’s military service academies. Passionate about supporting those who served, Eyvette also helps veterans and their families navigate available resources and access the benefits they have earned, while helping prepare the next generation of military leaders.
This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we recognize and celebrate the many cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. Their history is an essential part of our nation’s story.
Let’s honor their resilience, lasting impact, and the many ways Indigenous communities continue to shape our country and our future.

The people building AI are warning us about the risks. We shouldn’t have to wait for something to go wrong before we take them seriously.
We need real guardrails before it’s too late.
I have reached out to ICE several times to reconcile their conflicting responses on whether or not they were holding an ICE protestor database.
Now, records obtained by USA TODAY tell a very different story. We need answers and accountability.

The nation’s largest food distributor, Sysco, is purchasing Restaurant Depot — a deal that could drive up costs for restaurant owners and, ultimately, consumers.
Small businesses are already being squeezed by rising costs, which is why I’m calling on the FTC and DOJ to put a pause on this merger and protect independent restaurant owners and the communities they serve.

Earlier this year, I joined @TheRealTaraHoot and @HRC to take a stand against book bans and the attacks on our freedoms and liberties.
This Banned Books Week, let's keep fighting against censorship that erases stories and history — because our children deserve truth, not fear.
Many thanks to all the Winter Park residents who joined Mayor DeCiccio and me for our town hall last week to discuss amendment 3, transportation, and more!
