State Representative for Michigan's 50th District

Joined January 2025
For nearly two decades, nine counties in the United States have been subjected to carry 7.0-pound RVP gasoline, with EIGHT of them in Michigan alone. That’s right, eight southeast Michigan counties have been subject to carry 7.0-pound RVP gasoline, a completely separate summer fuel requirement that the rest of the state and country do not have to follow. That is why I co-sponsored HB 6281, legislation repealing Michigan’s state-specific summer vapor pressure mandate to ensure that E15 will be sold year-round in all Michigan counties. This means no more confusion and no more state specific labeling requirements. This proposal does not require anyone to buy or sell E15, nor does it change Michigan's federal air quality obligations. Instead, it reduces confusion, eliminates unnecessary state-specific requirements, and ensures every county is treated equally under state law. One state, one set of rules. That's just common sense. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

Michigan families are paying enough at the pump already. While House Republicans have fought to keep more money in taxpayers' pockets, Democrats have repeatedly backed policies that would increase energy costs and make life more expensive for working families. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

Families are feeling the squeeze from rising costs, and every dollar matters. That's why my House colleagues and I advanced commonsense measures to lower costs and protect consumers. I recently voted to prohibit “price optimization,” a practice that allows auto insurers to charge higher premiums based on whether they think a customer is unlikely to shop around. Insurance rates should be based on risk, not willingness to pay. I also recently voted to expand access to cost efficient E15 and E85 fuel options in Michigan. This would lower prices at the pump by an estimated 20 to 40 cents per gallon, saving the average family hundreds of dollars each year. It would also support Michigan farmers by creating greater demand for corn grown right here at home. Taking on issues like these is part of my commitment to protecting taxpayer dollars and making everyday life more affordable for Michigan families. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

On Wednesday, the House Select Committee continued its review of the Americans for Citizen Voting petition, hearing additional testimony from the Michigan Board of State Canvassers and the Bureau of Elections regarding the petition review process. With more than 700,000 signatures submitted by Michigan residents, it is important that we provide transparency regarding the review process, including the factors and standards that were applied in this case and how they compare to those used in previous petition reviews. Our committee's work continues as we seek greater clarity and transparency regarding the processes and standards used in Michigan's petition review system. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

Last week, I had the privilege of standing alongside the family of LCpl. Michael Wayne Hanks as the Governor signed HB 4189 into law, officially designating the South Grand Avenue bridge over I-96 in Fowlerville as the “LCpl. Michael W. Hanks Memorial Bridge.” I was honored to be joined by Karen Hanks, Tucker Gladstone, and Makiah Gladstone, the mother, nephew, and niece of LCpl. Hanks. For LCpl. Hanks, the Fowlerville exit marked the place he called home. Now, that same route will serve as a lasting tribute to a hometown hero who gave his life in service to our nation. This memorial ensures that future generations will remember his sacrifice, courage, and commitment to something greater than himself. I am especially grateful to his sister, Melissa Hanks Ketchel, whose unwavering dedication made this recognition possible. It has been an honor to work with her and the Hanks family to preserve Michael's legacy. This bridge will now stand as a permanent reminder that LCpl. Michael W. Hanks lived with honor, served with distinction, and will never be forgotten by the community he loved deeply. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

I’m proud to join President Trump and Vice President Vance in the fight against fraud. Public assistance programs should serve law-abiding Americans who truly need them, not those who seek to abuse the system. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

Today, we celebrate the anniversary of the United States Navy, a cornerstone of our national defense and a symbol of strength since its founding on October 13, 1775. For over two and a half centuries, the Navy has stood as a symbol of courage, discipline, and dedication. We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have served and continue to serve with honor and distinction. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative.

Through oversight hearings, investigations, and legislation, I've worked to uncover waste, improve transparency, and protect taxpayer resources. I'm proud that many of those reforms are now included in Michigan's FY27 budget! For too long, major policy changes have been made through executive waivers without meaningful legislative involvement. As Chairman of the House Subcommittee on State and Local Public Assistance Programs, I've consistently pushed back against that practice. The budget restores important guardrails by limiting unilateral changes and ensuring elected representatives maintain oversight over major policy decisions. Our investigations also uncovered hundreds of millions of dollars in improper payments across the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Unemployment Insurance Agency, and other state programs. We: - Heard testimony from whistleblowers - Questioned agency officials under oath - Demanded answers where others had accepted excuses Those efforts helped expose systemic problems and laid the foundation for reforms that strengthen program integrity, reduce waste, and better protect taxpayer resources. Transparency and accountability go hand in hand. The FY27 budget includes efforts of my legislation, HB 5650, to strengthen oversight of the Attorney General's office and ensure significant actions involving taxpayer resources are subject to greater review and scrutiny. This budget demonstrates what can happen when oversight leads to action. It strengthens accountability, improves transparency, and helps ensure taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly. And there's still more work ahead. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

Ahead of tonight’s Howell-Brighton game, I had the opportunity to see the George Jewett Trophy at the Howell Opera House. The trophy honors the legacy of George Jewett, who served as Howell High School’s first coach and manager back in 1895. His story is a lasting reminder of the leadership, character, and community spirit that continue to make this rivalry one of Livingston County’s most cherished traditions. Go Highlanders! #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative
