So what is this chain, really?
It looks like an oil-price trade. It isn't. It's a capex pipeline with a policy valve in the middle. The price decides who earns this quarter; the capex decides who earns for the next five years.
Here is the complete flow of money that happens across the value chain

In just 3 years, ~72 MTPA of capacity changed hands -almost the same as ~82 MTPA over the entire FY12–22 decade.
That’s not noise; that’s a structural reset that’s pushing the top-5 share toward ~62% by FY27 and hard-coding discipline into the sector’s DNA.
Lets' try and understand how this boring sector is suddenly in the lime light

Today we are going to discuss a very unique 2W OEM that has been able to built a product that is built to last in 10+ years. For context - They had no legacy nothing and have built the business ground up from nothing (product first distribution later)
Ather invested in the things that compound and are hard to copy i.e. design IP, software, brand, charging network and rented the things that don't (cell manufacturing). That is why it spends less than Ola yet has better unit economics, and why the moat is earned rather than bought.
And this is the fruits of investing in building technology and a superior product for years before just thinking about scaling distribution. At the end of the day we can see the result that the product won that did not catch fire :)
But here today we will get into details of how they created this MOAT and how it is now able to win a superior market share and show such a strong growth at the same time when competition did not decrease in fact it has gone up!

Today, let's talk about a SaaS business that most people would dismiss at first glance.
An IT company. A software business. In 2025-26, the automatic reaction is, "AI will eat these guys alive."
And honestly? For most SaaS companies, that fear is valid.
But this one is different.
This isn't a generic software vendor selling dashboards or CRM tools. This business has quietly built itself into the invisible infrastructure of a $1.5 trillion global travel industry.
Every time you book a hotel on Booking. com, every time an airline adjusts its fare, every time a hotel decides how much to spend on Google ads there's a high chance this company's technology is running in the background, making that decision happen.
And here's the contrarian thesis that we'll break down in this thread:
AI doesn't disrupt this business. AI makes its moat deeper.
While the market debates whether SaaS companies will survive the AI wave, this one is already deploying AI agents that deliver 300% revenue lifts for customers, has built the world's largest travel intent data platform with 1.5 billion data points, and is in active conversations with OpenAI and Google to become the advertising infrastructure layer for AI-powered travel.
So in this thread, we're going to break it all down for you in simple terms:
→ What the business actually does (and why it can't be replicated)
→ Why financial metrics of this company are among the best in Indian SaaS
→ What's going to drive the next phase of growth
→ The real risks that you should watch
→ And the big question, is AI a threat or the biggest tailwind this business has ever had?

Today we are going to catch-up with one of the other unique companies in the Indian recycling and circular economy space
This one company in India that has spent 30 years building the infrastructure to be the destination for that rerouting. It operates 13 manufacturing plants across 4 recycling verticals. It has 1,900+ procurement touch-points spanning 5 continents. It is the only company in India with ILA-accredited recycling plants (the International Lead Association, which is the global gold standard for lead recycling quality). It processes over 2.87 lakh metric tonnes of scrap annually, selling refined recycled products to 375+ customers across 70+ countries.

India has 7.8 crore microfinance borrowers. Mostly women. Mostly rural. No collateral. No credit history. No bank willing to serve them.
Without MFIs, they borrow from moneylenders at 40–120% annualised interest.
Microfinance breaks that trap by lending small, unsecured, through the social architecture of Joint Liability Groups (JLGs). 5-10 women from the same community who collectively guarantee each other's loans. In normal times, repayment rates rival the best secured lenders in the world 98–99%.
This is a long read. But if you want to understand how to think about cyclical financial businesses and what a disciplined operator looks like this is worth your time.

True market dominance requires controlling the critical dependencies... the inputs, the processes, the distribution, and ideally the customer relationship.
Carnegie controlled raw materials and transportation. Standard Oil controlled refining and distribution. AT&T controlled the entire network. IBM locked in both hardware and software. Microsoft owned the OS. Amazon built the logistics infrastructure. Apple controls chips, OS, apps, and retail. Tesla manufactures batteries, software, and handles direct sales.
The losers in each era? They rented someone else's infrastructure. They trusted partners. They optimized for margins instead of control. They played nice with existing systems instead of building new ones.
The pattern is unmistakable. Across 150 years and myriad of industries, the winners aren’t those with incrementally better products. The winners are those who understand that true market power comes from controlling what others need to reach customers.
It’s not just about vertical integration for efficiency’s sake, it’s about vertical integration as a strategic weapon. When you own the stack, you set the rules. You control the costs. You dictate the pace of innovation. You capture disproportionate value.
This is the timeless physics of market power. The names change. The industries evolve. But the fundamental insight remains: if you want to build an enduring franchise, don’t just compete on product. Compete on structure. Own the stack. Control the chokepoints. Make your business essential to the functioning of others.
That’s how monopolies are born. That’s how fortunes are made. And that’s the pattern that will define the next wave of industrial dominance, whether it’s in semiconductors, space infrastructure, or the picks-and-shovels of the AI revolution.

What strikes me is that, the semiconductor value chain, isn't a supply chain, it's a constraint chain. Each segment represents a chokepoint, and whoever controls the chokepoints controls the future.
What NVIDIA has built is perhaps the most elegant example of platform power in the semiconductor world. They don't just sell GPUs, they've constructed a gravitational field. Look at that network: strategic suppliers upstream (TSMC, Samsung, TSMC), diverse customers across hyperscalers, gaming, automotive, and extensive distribution downstream.
But here's what's fascinating: NVIDIA faces "intense multi-front competition" from AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm. Yet they're winning not just on silicon performance but on software lock-in (CUDA), ecosystem richness, and narrative momentum. They've turned GPUs into infrastructure, and infrastructure into inevitability.
The competitive threats aren't symmetrical. AMD competes on graphics and data center. Intel threatens on AI and edge computing. Qualcomm circles automotive. But NVIDIA has the luxury of fighting on terrain they've defined... accelerated computing as the substrate for AI. They're not just ahead; they're shaping the direction of the race.
The semiconductor value chain is a masterclass in how specialized knowledge compounds, how bottlenecks create power, and how the future gets built, one impossibly complex wafer at a time.
The new frontiers aren't just smaller transistors. They're new materials (silicon carbide, gallium nitride), new architectures (chiplets, 3D stacking), new applications (edge AI, quantum interfaces), and new geographies of production.

Is AI the next IT bubble?
Short answer “No”. AI is tracing the arc of Shales. Like the US oil boom, the narrative is shifting from scarcity to abundance. The early parallels—surging capital, stretched valuations—echo the dot-com era. But unlike 1999–00 (where productivity gains evaporated) or the 1980s AI Winter (rule-based systems failed), this is a profound, capital-intensive structural buildout.
Here in this thread I would not bore you with all the story of how AI was built and history of it rather would jump on straight to the discussion on how we view this as the multi year boom and where does the real value lies in the AI value chain out there
So let’s dive deep and understand what AI has brought in for us investors as an opportunity…
