Meet María Irene Fornés—a visionary Cuban-American playwright who was losing her memories, but not her creativity, to dementia. Here the lens becomes her pen.

Joan Acocella's writing means more to me than I can say. But the point of criticism is to try and say, and so I did. Thank you, Joan. I'll be reading you forever. newyorker.com/magazine/2024/…

Today's Pride icon is playwright and theatre artist María Irene Fornés. She changed the art, and to say she was experimental or radical minimizes her achievements. #mariairenefornes #playwright #director #teacher #lesbian #maverick #lgbtq #lgbtqpride #pride #pridemonth #icon

Thinking of Phil Hoffman today on what would have been his 56th birthday. Such a privileged to have worked with him on LONG DAYS JOURNEY (Here w/Vanessa Redgrave) - a harrowing, stunning performance - one of so many. Imagine what the future held for him. Greatly missed.

I just saw this tweet from @collinshughes and was reminded of something #MariaIreneFornes once said to me: "Hooray for college I tell you. Theatre survives because of college and because of the people who teach theater in college." Some food for thought this Friday morning.
I do wonder if colleges and universities are about to become a vital stabilizing force in the theater as co-producers with professional companies.

Happy birthday to Harvey Fierstein, the trailblazing playwright and actor. He moved from marginal downtown to mainstream midtown without diluting his defiantly comfortable queerness, making gay love, gay parenting and cross-dressing the stuff of heartwarming Broadway hits.

María Irene Fornés would have turned 93 today. HBD Irene! "Some people complain that my work doesn't offer the solution. But the reason for that is that I feel that the characters don't have to get out, it's you who has to get out." -María Irene Fornés #mariairenefornes

Great interview with the cinematographer Babette Mangolte about the making of Jeanne Dielman: "While I was adjusting the lighting, the closeness of the work between Chantal and Delphine was palpable, we could foresee from that alone what the film would be, liberation.fr/culture/cinema…
