Just had a letter from a woman who read my story in this months Good Housekeeping magazine and wants to now start campaigning to clean up her river (which sounds in a dreadful state). Chuffed to bits it's inspiring others to take up the cause, makes the effort worthwhile.

"Southern Water discharged 'five MONTHS' worth of raw sewage at bathing beaches in the first eight days of November."
Fined £93,464,000 since 2010 for breaking environment law. Fines are clearly no deterrent.
We must make directors personally liable.

Exciting to find the Celtic Ghost Millipede (Psichrosoma cf breuili) this week on a coal tip above Clydach Vale, Rhondda. This is just the 4th known location (globally!) for this millipede that was found new to science (by Christian Owen) from a site near Newbridge in 2015.
Nice tip from Butterfly Conservation on improving habitat for butterflies after #BigButterflyCount:
“cultivate Holly and flowering Ivy ... grow Hop, elms and nettles. Gardens that are wildlife friendly can provide vital habitat, allowing them space to feed, breed and shelter.”

Astonishing, we've almost got a full house.
Of the 86 bathing sites on the @SouthernWater map, 78 are showing sewage releases 💩
If we manually add 'non-impacting' releases, we're down to 3 unpolluted locations in Kent, Sussex and Hampshire.
Difficult to know what to say 🤷♂️

Profiteering water companies. Toothless regulators. A complacent government. All turning a blind eye.
2.7m hours of sewage were pumped into the sea last year, poisoning precious ecosystems and making people sick. 🤢
This must stop. 💩😡

At what point does @10DowningStreet realise that the water industry is helping bring down the government?
Even @BritishVogue are currently reporting that someone "Swimming at St Leonards-on-Sea", "was hospitalised... after swallowing sewage". Game over!

Looks like the European Commission has had enough. And why wouldn't you.
EU expresses "deep concern" about UK releases of raw sewage into the sea. In the #brexit deal, the UK promised not to regress from existing EU environmental law. The European Commission is monitoring the situation, an official tells MEPs. @EP_Fisheries @VSinkevicius
