NYC's final elite fields for Sunday. Benson Kipruto and Hellen Obiri are back to defend their titles, while Sifan Hassan (illness) and Fiona O'Keeffe (hamstring) have pulled out. Andreas Almgren and Weini Kelati are making their marathon debuts, and Rie Kawauchi is in the women's field. Clocks fall back on race morning, and the forecast is dry and mild.

Chengdu Marathon in China drew 35,000 runners. Zhao Changhong won the men's race in 2:13:01, and Ding Changqin won the women's in 2:31:47.

Japan has the first men's world record in the marathon race walk. Masatora Kawano walked 2:55:14 at the Takahata championships in Yamagata. Australia's Rebecca Henderson set the women's world record in 3:14:52. Congrats!

Venice set a course record at its 40th edition. Kenya's Peter Kwemoi Ndorobo won in 2:07:31, and for the first time three men broke 2:08. Jackline Jerono won the women's race in 2:26:16, even after stopping at the last aid station to grab a bottle she'd dropped. More than 24,000 entries sold out every distance

Ethiopian runners won both races in Dublin. Abay Alemu Lesa took the men's race in 2:10:28, six seconds ahead of Sweden's Ebba Chala. Zenebu Fikadu Jebesa won the women's race in 2:24:26. A record 19,190 people took part, and more than €5M has been raised for charity

Kanazawa had a record field despite the rain. 15,659 runners started and 14,774 finished. Runner-up Yuki Yamada was actually a second faster than winner Tomohide Nishikawa on net time, but the order is decided by gun time

Reni Takagi's official Yokohama time was 4:13:44, faster than the 4½-hour guess fans had last night. She says she's going for sub-4 next year

Frankfurt had the strangest finish of the day. Amanal Petros ran into a food-delivery cyclist on the racing line just before the finish, and Jirata Denki of Ethiopia went past him to win in a 2:05:26 PB. Petros, who lost his rhythm and shoved the rider, was second in 2:05:46. In the women's race, Zeineba Yimer won in 2:19:45 and Blanka Dörfel ran 2:20:46 in her debut.

Frankfurt's weather may end the record hunt. The UK Met Office gives a 95%+ chance of rain from 6 to 9am Sunday, with winds of 14 to 26 km/h, and organizers said today that records are out of reach if that holds. It's a record field of 19,720 entries and Jo Schindler's last race as race director. 2014 winner Mark Kiptoo, now 50, is chasing the M50 world best of 2:19:29

Kanazawa on Sunday is likely to be wet. There's an 80% chance of rain, and it has rained at 8 of the last 10 editions. 15,000 runners start at 8:30am from Shiinoki Geihinkan. One odd detail: after a security flaw turned up in PHP, the programming language, bib pickup dropped its phone-based entry ticket and went back to paper forms. Looks like just a precaution though. No media reports mentioned a potential breach.

Peres Jepchirchir, the Olympic and world marathon champion, has been provisionally suspended for EPO. The sample came from an out-of-competition test in Kenya before she won Sydney in August in 2:18:31. Sydney's organizers say they're "extremely disappointed," and they point to the extra out-of-competition testing the Majors have paid for.
