It took many years to develop because the oilfield has challenging geology and requires specialised offshore technology. 1977: Clair oilfield discovered. 2005: First oil production began from the original Clair platform. 2018: The newer Clair Ridge platforms began producing oil.

Both of these fields were discovered 2004/5 and very quickly assessed to be huge and viable. ‘Running out of oil and gas in 5 years’, was a deliberate lie.
