Liberal Britain fails to recognise that the ruling class have skilfully managed to convince the working class that their problem is due to immigration & Islam, having already convinced them it was all the fault of the EU. We’re heading for full blown fascism & the left is asleep

Russian strikes on Ukraine today are truly horrific. A train station in Dnipro, downtown Chernihiv. A father crying over the body of his child. Children screaming for a dad who is now gone.
And no reaction from the US, which is the most involved in making a "peace deal." Nothing from Trump at all.
It creates such a scary, dangerous reality, one where russian oil refineries are protected, but Ukrainian children simply walking the streets of their cities are treated as fair targets. One where the aggression is supported and rewarded and the resistance is judged.
I’m horrified by the world I find myself in. This is not how you make peace deals, this is how you betray your allies and throw them to the wolves.

Freedom of Movement is NOT an unconditional right under EU law: it is conditional on finding a job or being self-sufficient i.e. not being a burden on taxpayers. Otherwise there is no right to stay.

🚨 Melania Trump @FLOTUS , where are your humanitarian guarantees? Is the rescue of Ukrainians becoming yet another Russian propaganda spectacle?
On October 29, Ukraine’s Centre for Strategic Communications reported indications that civilians were being transferred from Russian-occupied Oleshky to Russia without the international oversight previously agreed upon.
Ukraine’s Ombudsman has not yet confirmed these reports. However, the allegations themselves demand an immediate, independent investigation.
Who guarantees that civilians can freely choose where they are evacuated?
Where are the independent international observers?
Do Ukrainian civilians have an unrestricted opportunity to return to Ukrainian-controlled territory?
And why is Russia’s state news agency TASS distributing footage of this operation while questions about independent oversight remain unanswered?
We have already witnessed the consequences of Russian occupation in Mariupol, Bucha, Izium, and Kupiansk.
The world must remember the documented crimes against Ukrainian civilians, forced displacement, and violations of international humanitarian law.
Oleshky must not become another such case.
On October 23, the White House presented Melania Trump as a mediator of a humanitarian agreement.
But humanitarian diplomacy is not about press releases, carefully staged photographs, or political credit.
It is about people’s safety, their voluntary consent, independent monitoring, and their right to return home.
Melania and Donald Trump, Ukrainian civilians are not tools for building your political reputations.
If agreements have been violated, those violations must be documented, investigated, and those responsible identified.
If civilians are forcibly transferred or deported, those responsible must be held accountable under international law.
We demand full transparency regarding this humanitarian operation, independent monitoring, and public explanations from the United States concerning the security guarantees provided to Ukrainian citizens.
Russia has no right to turn the suffering of people trapped under its occupation into evidence of its own supposed “humanity.”
And no international mediator should allow humanitarian operations to be used to conceal potential human rights violations.
Ukrainian civilians have the right to freedom, safety, and to return home.
Not to become part of another propaganda spectacle.

Somewhere there's a British student who won't apply to a European university.
A freelancer who won't pursue a European client.
A family who won't make a home abroad.
They may never realise what they've missed.
That's what makes the loss of Freedom of Movement so cruel.

Britain’s food security problem goes further back than Brexit to 1964.
Think of the economy as a wildlife 🦁 park. After the war, Britain put fences around strategically important food production. We understood that farmers needed to remain viable because the country needed to eat.
Then in 1964 we increasingly embraced the idea that removing the fences and exposing everything to ever fiercer competition would make everything cheaper.
EU membership subsequently kept some substantial fences around agriculture through the CAP, common standards, market protections and a huge neighbouring market.
But Brexit removed many of those fences.
And now we’re feeding more and more of the wildlife park to the lions 👉the corporations and enormous pools of capital with the scale to survive conditions that smaller businesses cannot.
But eventually the lions run out of things to eat.
The independent shops disappear.
The family businesses disappear.
The farms and farmers disappear.
Ownership concentrates.
Competition diminishes.
Communities hollow out.
Eventually you have created a desert.
A resilient economy is an ecosystem.
If policy allows its most powerful inhabitants to consume everything else, eventually there is very little life left to sustain it.
🚨 🚩 The Brexit earthquake didn’t begin in 2016, it began in 1964.
That year, Britain 🇬🇧 scrapped Resale Price Maintenance. A huge political earthquake that everyone has forgotten about.
It was sold as giving consumers lower prices. What it actually did was shift power dramatically from manufacturers and small producers to giant retailers.
Tesco and the supermarkets won big. Independent shops, high streets, and primary producers (including farmers) began a long, slow decline.
This was the moment we started prioritising cheap imports and corporate scale over domestic production and resilience. The foundations of today’s broken food system, where farmers are squeezed and we rely on fragile global supply chains were laid then.
Brexit was the latest tremor in a 60-year earthquake.
The end of high streets and the hollowing out of British industry didn’t start with Brexit or EU membership, it began in 1964 when Resale Price Maintenance was scrapped.
That decision empowered giant retailers to undercut everyone else, shifted power away from producers, and encouraged reliance on cheap imports. We lost the ability to protect and nurture our own manufacturing and farming base.
This resulted in a consumer economy that worked while we were rich but left us vulnerable when times got harder. We don’t make enough, we can’t afford to make enough, and food security is now at risk.
