Devastated to hear of the passing of Iasos, a man that made truly joyful music. I was lucky enough to see him perform in Athens last year and it was a performance that really touched my soul in its almost silly sincerity and beautiful lack of cynicism. youtu.be/5-QR5_58xPk?si=UNaQ…
Replying to @ChryssoCosmas
@ChryssoCosmas and I made a traditional Cypriot stool at a heartland of legends workshop. No nails or glue and it’s made from foraged giant fennel stalks and fixed together with twigs from a mastic tree. All made without power tools. Not to be immodest but I’m beyond proud of it!
✨ bonus object ✨
This is a lead weight inscribed with the name and position of an officer who administered a Roman market. So basically, is this is an ancient Roman lanyard???
a few more highlights from the Classical and Roman period;
‘Hot-water-bottle man’ comprised of different vessels to place over different body parts for a warm compress, a glass fish bottle, a lovely glass stirring rod and a guy playing a double flute situation…
I love this magical amulet with a palindrome inscription. @crewsproject @ShoniBLD do you know what it means? Does it make sense?
It reminds me of @PhilipJBoyes magic of writing talk at the Crews conference. I wonder it the palindromic nature activates the magic…
there’s a plentiful collection of oil lamps which look to be produced from moulds, although at least one of them couldn’t really be described as ‘intact’… must have been fun parties at the house of Dionysus though…
🚨 writing alert 🚨
There are a handful of syllabic inscriptions all in the Paphian variant written left-to-right. The last pic shows the syllables Pa-Po = Paphos.
I love the sharp angular vibe of the Paphian variant as opposed to the common form of the Cypriot Syllabary…
these 4th c. BC jugs are very meta. The pouring spout is a person pouring water out of a similar jug to that which it is. At least one of the figures seem to be made in a separate mould and then has a much rougher and ludicrously disproportionate arm holding the jug. Very fun…
🎵 *hey Mr tambourine man,
From 6 BCE,
I’m not sleepy and there ain’t
no place I’m going to*🎵
Also a few waves from the from the depths of time… that gang look so happy to see you! …
it’s 3 thumbs up from me for this three-headed horse situation as well as these two guys extolling very different riding techniques. I also enjoy these somewhat ambiguous zoomorphic vessels with their shocked face spouts 😮 …
Paphos museum day (Thread)
Straight to the archaeology museum where we were immediately greeted by these pictolite cruciform figures, some of which are pushing 6000 years old! I love love love the triple one that looks like a children’s charity logo…
